Over the years, Lauren Book has built much of her public career around these policies. Whether you agree or disagree with her positions, it’s fair to question the laws she has championed and the real-world outcomes they’ve produced.

When someone has spent years advocating for a particular approach, it can become difficult to separate deeply held beliefs from evidence that may challenge them. As the saying goes, if you’ve been drinking the Kool-Aid long enough, you may start believing it’s wine.

The debate should be about facts, data, and whether these laws actually improve public safet not about anyone’s personal tragedy. We need to have a good chat sometime.

My theory is, as long as lawmakers get away with doing anything they want to us, that is the way things will be if a judge doesn’t step in. Seems nothing is punishment anymore. I cry in my head when I hear a registrant isn’t allowed to live with their own kids due to registry restrictions, location restrictions and more.

What happened to when you finish your sentence, you are free, other than the fact you will have a felony for life in most cases. But just one single group called sexual offenders, will be punished possibly forever, even after off all sanctions. Then the law makers and even judges try and say none of it is punishment, just some consequential circumstance that is non punitive.
Not punitive to who? I do not know anyone else in the U.S who can go to jail for being late 1 day for a visit to registration, one day late for getting your car tag replaced, just one day late making a change on your emails. I could type these what ifs for the end of time and still be typing.
There are so many stipulations to being arrested on the registry that not even some lawyers understand what the Hell is going on. I mean that as it is so confusing that legal defense sometimes cannot even jump through the hoops of trash to get to the truth of what is legal and what is not for registrants. No wonder so few get off the registry, the firewalls are set in place for a reason, just because a judge said there has to be a path off the registry, doesn’t mean we will actually be removed and no law says it is mandatory to be removed at a certain time line.

A conservative Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade.

They admitted they made a mistake.

And of course, there are people who say the reversal was a mistake.

It will never ever be possible to please everyone. But politicians try and doing so, they have to lie to some to make the others happy. They appeal to the majority, whichever side is the issue.

The problem is that the general public is totally ignorant and uneducated on what the registries are really about. Weak minds are easy to manipulate. The herd mentality is strong with an awful lot of people.

They are terrified of being true to themselves and different from the programmed mob. So they cave. They dishonor their Creator.

The general population of huemanity has not a clue of the significance of that proverb. Manipulated religion has hidden the true nature of what is a hueman. I would elaborate here but the moderators don’t like when I get into deep truths. It’s a shame. It would help so many souls.

It is a fact that the Supreme Court does get it wrong, including on huge hot button issues. And they have reversed on big issues.

Believe.

I disagree with the current makeup of the Court and with some of the decisions it has made in these cases. That said, I think several justices may be waiting for the right case to revisit these issues. The problem is that many of the people most affected by registry laws don’t have the financial resources to take a case all the way through the federal courts, while wealthier defendants often have access to legal teams that can negotiate outcomes where they never end up on a registry in the first place.

I believe that, with the right legal climate, the right constitutional arguments, and a case that clearly demonstrates how modern registry laws operate in practice, there is a genuine opportunity for the Supreme Court to reconsider its earlier reasoning. The registries of today are far different from what existed when the Court decided Smith v. Doe in 2003. Since then, many states have added residency restrictions, employment limitations, GPS monitoring, internet and social media restrictions, exclusion zones, frequent in-person reporting requirements, and criminal penalties for technical violations.

In my opinion, these cumulative restrictions make it increasingly difficult to argue that modern registry systems are purely civil and nonpunitive.

Forget SCOTUS. An ultra-conservative court will not rule in our favor.
