Broward County Assistant State Attorney Stacey Honowitz, who has prosecuted crimes for nearly 30 years, was caught shoplifting from a Publix Supermarket in Aventura. She was a supervisor in the sex crimes unit.
The Aventura police released security camera footage showing Honowitz stealing approximately $40 worth of cosmetics. While her attorney claims she stuck the items into her purse and simply forgot to pay for them, she went into her purse to pay for other groceries and again to purchase a lottery ticket.
Nobody should be above the law – certainly not someone who prosecutes others for doing so.
UPDATED: The charges were Nolle Prossed
She will get away with it and keep her job and “title”.
There is an incident that happened with a sheriff in Georgia if someone would like to Google it. It would be great to hear some comments on this! Decalb County Sheriff Jeffery L. Mann. The incident happened May of 2017 and he is still in Office! He is deeply committed to providing superior public safety services to the people.
Just imagine what she would say if a registered sex offender was caught on camera doing the same thing. Politicians would be all over that story. She didn’t just violate the law, she also broke her oath of office.
Its a “US & THEM” thing now.
US=== the poor schlubs who try to make a living, who have to budget to make an “emergency payment” on anything…
THEM=== the “entitled”, the ones in the $1,000 suits, driving the Benz, or the Porsche, strutting around like peacocks. Thinking they can do whatever they want, with no remorse and no sense of responsibility or culpability.
Guilty or not……. If we all had “million dollar attorneys”, would there actually BE a registry?
Well now shouldn’t there be ” civil commitment” for her crime ? Where she can go though ” treatment”, and a panel of doctors have to agree that she is no longer a threat to the millions of innocent stores.
Most of these people that are pointing fingers at others should remember that three fingers are pointed back at themselves!!!
At least one is pointing the other way now.
Wouldn’t all her convictions be questioned if she were to be found guilty ?? Probably wouldn’t make it that far I’m guessing.
You can see the guilt ( yes I did it and I know what I was doing ) in her face in that video.
She should loose her security clearances.
A shop lifting registry seems to be in order here because as we all know shop lifting has a “frightening and high” re-offense rate
Yes, I agree with you it should!!
” While her attorney claims she stuck the items into her purse and simply forgot to pay for them, she went into her purse to pay for other groceries and again to purchase a lottery ticket. ”
If I were a judge, I wouldn’t be able to contain my laughter. So she went into her purse to pay for other items after the fact, and she didn’t see the cosmetics that she already had put in there ? What’s next ? It was too dark in her purse ? or she thought those were her old paid for cosmetics ? lol. Or an amnesia defense ? Best thing now is to admit to your crime and let your attorney ask for leniency.
and this is just one that we know of…. bet there are more authority figures who haven’t been caught yet doing unlawful things no matter how big or small they are.
She probably get under the table gifts for other illegal prosecutions so why shouldn’t she expect the same at the supermarket.
I hope other stores in the area are searching their surveillance videos for evidence of other crimes by her.
A letter should be sent to Florida Bar asking why certain State Attorneys get Special treatment when they are arrested. I didn’t get to collect a check when I arrested for a crime Some one please find the right phone number I call them
Here is the number: 1-866-352-0707
I thought Publix has shopping carts.? lol Hmmm must be a new trend to”knowing and willfulling” put items in a purse and not pay for it.. Karma can back for her. Be frosty fellow S.O. Karma will visit the Bookmarkers as well
I hope you can keep us informed on what, if anything, happens to this “paragon of virtue and defender of the law.” (yes, I’m being facetious.)
So she was “detained” and not arrested nor booked. There is no mug shot to be found on the internet. See how the media emphasizes that she had a clean record before this? How many of us got the same balanced coverage……….NONE!
This is a travesty, she will be exonerated and record expunged. Back to work next week after a mock “investigation.” Of course that story won’t be in the media.
She is a thief, plain & simple. I think that you steal 10 times, on average before you are caught.
Forget the shoplifting charge….
How many LIVES has she STOLEN thru false statements, false accusations….. all in the name of “justice”?????
And of course, she is going to get a “free pass” on this.
I think we should review all of her cases and see how many FACTS has she “hidden” in her purse in the pursuit of justice.
” Ideally “, it would be fair that she be tried by the likes of us. lol.
Hypocrite – I hope they create a new registry for thieves such as this. The public has a right to know to “protect” their property. lol
It would not be punishment but simply administrative.
Exactly what I was thinking.
U’d think (or hope) now she might understand the other side
Stacy Honowitz was the prosecutor / LIAR in my case.
She took a statement that denied every accusation levied against me and told the Judge “she had a confession”!!!!
Warf on Star Trek said it best..
“Revenge is a dish that is best served COLD”
Couldnt have happened to a nicer person.
Folks, here’s what will likely happen. She will be diverted into a pretrial program that consists of a fine and some probationary time less than one year since theft of anything below $300 in Florida is a misdemeanor. Upon successful completion of those and any other court requirements she will be discharged without a conviction since the charges will be “diverted” and dropped. No substantial jail time. No serious punishment. No real stigma. She’ll keep her license to practice law and most likely her job as a prosecutor. That’s it. Frankly, I’d be happier about it if there was some sort of shoplifter’s registration requirements with criminal penalties attached for failing to register or for omitting information on a public registry they way sex offenders (even misdemeanor violators) face everyday.
She isn’t facing jail time to begin with.
It’ll likely be dismissed.
An interesting fact, according to the Miami Herald, is that her brother got popped for theft 5 years ago in Colorado and she went up to testify and kept mentioning her job as a prosecutor. Her brother was let free.
Hopefully the shame of being caught as a shoplifter and being all over the news will give her a very, very, very small taste of what it’s like.
Lest we forget how Floriduh politics trump justice:

KARMA !
Folks, don’t be disillusioned by believing anything will come of Her crime. The Injustice system is just that.
I have a good friend who was once a Brevard County deputy. He served for five years but came to the realization that many of the people he served with belonged behind bars just as much as if not more so than the people he monitored in the county jail. He had to resign.
After my arrest, I determined the only difference between most inmates and most correction officers is “they haven’t been caught yet”. This takes it to a higher level. Who knows, maybe it will open her eyes to “our” world.
Once a shoplifter always a shoplifter! Isn’t that the way people like her think? That’s the way sex offenders are treated. Who shops and puts what they are going to buy in their purse?
Makes you wonder how many times before she’s done this, thinks she’s above the law,as most prosecutors do ….
Please. Most prosecutors are above the law. They practically run everything in the courtrooms. Judges are pretty much rubber stamps.
Amazing news!
