It is inhuman and these people will be judged in the future as sadistically motivated. Those who created these rules and those who enforce them are nothing short of murderers. They care nothing about child safety since most sex offenders did NOTHING with children YET are lumped in with them. They do this because once children are mentioned the brain turns OFF and switches to primitive emotion - a knee-jerk response with NO basis in reality but allows the masses to be easily manipulated by these sociopaths/leaders! Once a person does their time, they should be treated as an equal member of society regardless of felonies and so called sex offenses. At this present time in the midst of this HORRIBLE COVID 19 NIGHTMARE, there is no time to be discussing who is going to be screened and screened out of this new so called emergency homeless shelter!!! If they truly wanted to help those with emergencies, then they would not be screening people like this! SHAME!!! ESPECIALLY IN THESE HORRIFIC TIMES!!! DECIDING WHO CAN AND CANNOT GET HELP AT THESE SHELTERS IS TOTALLY UNNACCEPPTABLE AND HAS NO PLACE EITHER IN THESE HORRIFIC TIMES!!! SHAME ON YOU TO WHOEVER CAME UP WITH THESE POLICIES!!!

No one with “sex offenses”…. hmmm… do you people know how many different things qualify as “sex offenses”? Or are you assuming they’re all the same as what happened to Megan Kanka and FL senator Lauren Book?
I feel for the people who caught a sex offense charge for having sex in the backseat of a car like many of us GenX’ers did back in the day. Or teenagers who did “sexting” as got changed and are now adults still carrying the “scarlet letter” of sex offender registry. Or how about the 17 or so states that make it a “sex offense” to urinate in public like on the side of the highway when you can’t find a rest stop? Yeah. Anyone with those types of offenses, if they are currently homeless, will remain homeless thanks to the fear mongering of the News Media and the lies told by law enforcement agencies.
I guess anyone who has any other type of offense wouldn’t EVER commit a sexual offense, right? Just ask Dr William Petit of Connecticut about how people with NO PREVIOUS sex offense would NEVER commit a sexual offense. They’re just typical criminals who do home invasions to rob others and then decide to rape the kids in the process. Yeah, so anyone with a robbery conviction is “a-ok” for your facility. Awesome!!!

I emailed the reporter who wrote the story. I also emailed the following to all local TV stations in Fort Myers/Naples:
Hello:
Shelters are opening across the country, and sex offenders are being systematically excluded. This is tantamount to a type of genocide! (They are being denied basic sanitation.)

Furthermore, all but 2 states are still requiring in-person registration for sex-offenders. The registered citizen’s health and safety is being ignored!

Registered citizens number approximately 1 million US citizens !

It seems the mental-emotional virus of public fears of registrants & how they respond to registrants remains far more powerful than the merely physical-medical COVID-19 can or ever will be.
Of course, COVID-19 is by comparison the “new kid on the block”, and has not had anything like the opportunity or the time to become as contagious, as dangerous, as permanently damaging as have SO laws.
Perhaps some people of influence–lawmakers, perhaps–have concluded “There are pandemics–and then there are PANDEMICS!!”
