Councilwoman Leonard,
I am contacting you today regarding the city council special meeting scheduled for July 16th, 2024. Every American citizen deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, including citizens who may have convictions for certain crimes. Separation and special treatment for individuals who have convictions of a sexual nature should be afforded the same treatment and dignity. When special treatment, such as exclusion, is placed on these individuals, their spouses, children, and loved ones are also excluded. The usual idea of public safety is raised when making provisions for special treatment of these citizens. Does the exclusion make your community safe? If you consider the empirical data regarding the public’s safety, you might find that special treatment does nothing but remove the ability for some families to have the same housing opportunities given to everyone else in your city. Separation and segregation of American citizens within our nation does not seem reasonable. I pray you will be moved to keep the limits set by the State of Florida in regard to residency restrictions for certain American citizens and their families to live and enjoy everything the City of Westlake, Florida, has to offer.
