Yes, you can petition for early release. however, this is no record of anyone EVER getting released early. I personally know some one who passed ALL his polygraphs and had full time employment. NEVER had a problem with probation. Filed for early release with only 3 months left. DENIED. So it's nothing but a bunch of lies giving S/O's false hope. Only intended to make the politicians feel good. that they are giving someone a chance.

Florida will not admit the only reason they keep passing laws on sex offenses is not to protect the community, it is simply because it gets them votes. People are to under educated to realize that they are being duped, if they take time to educate themselves, instead of taking the word of law makers and lobbyist, they would realize that there is sound research to show the laws do not work. That the requirements set forth do not protect the community, and they have been lied to over and over by false statistics.

Kudos to Connecticut. If Florida would have a risk based assessment such as like the bill from CT, My cousin would be off the registry already. 10 years of being offense free (the only offense he has ) and he still has to register. Ridiculous!. The more people get to know him ( every day average people ) the more they ask him why he is still on a registry.

This is fantastic news. The whole criminal justice system needs reform for sex, drug, and other offenses. The punishments are too harsh in length for the severity of the crime, and removing the post-conviction stigma is nearly impossible. As the post alludes, once convicted as a felon, the risk of recidivism increases because one cannot get a job, have a meaningful livelihood despite furthering one's education, or enhancing one's life. As a registered sex offender, finding a place to live is a total nightmare. Registered sex offenders are branded with the Scarlet A for the rest of their lives.

Does anyone have a link to the news article regarding the passage of the Connecticut bill?

I would encourage JM to move there.
Florida seems to be mired in Puritanism.
