My siblings, our friends and I as kids walked the streets in our small neighborhood for Halloween candy while our parents stayed home handing out candy. The same was true for many other kids in the neighborhood.

Most of the people in the neighborhood knew each other. Only two houses did not give out candy.

No traffic because only two ways into the neighborhood and both were from the same direction so the neighborhood was a street dead end neighborhood. Only two houses had sidewalks.

There were no safety issues in my neighborhood. Even when not Halloween, most of us kids in the neighborhood played outside and in the streets unsupervised until well after dark.

If my parents were aware of a “sex offender” raping kids, I can promise my mother would have made us stay home vs out obtaining candy.

All they are doing is harming their children from being overly cautious. People learn from their mistakes, but not if your cuddled for 18-23 years because your parents can’t remember their own upbringing and mimic their experiences.

That’s exactly right. Parents who think they need the Hit Lists do not understand how to protect children and they nearly certainly are not. Responsible parents don’t have any need for the Hit Lists. Irresponsible ones will never be helped by it.

My great grandparents, grandparents, and parents didn’t have a registry with red dots. Kids were fine and safe because parents were responsible. When I was kid in the 80’s my friends and I were with two parents holding flashlights. Worst thing were the plastic mask with the cheap string on the back. If parents need government to help them to be responsible they are lost and not the brightest.

Back when I was a kid, the biggest concern was whether or not my candy had been tampered with, i.e. needles stuck in candy bars, poison, etc. As time went on we soon realized how unfounded those fears were, so the greatest danger became drivers who were not paying attention to the kids running across the street, and I remember several incidents over the years of kids getting hit by cars. The term “sex offender” had not yet been invented so no one was concerned about that. We were ALWAYS accompanied by a parent and were not allowed to approach a house without our parents right there with us. For people to to think that registrants are lurking inside their homes waiting to snatch up a kid is not only unfounded, its just plain idiotic thinking, especially in these times when many citizens are carrying guns. I’m sure no parent is going to allow their preteen kid to go out alone, so this nonsense needs to stop and more focus be placed on the real dangers which are idiot drivers and kids getting sick from eating way too much candy.
