Connecticut is steps closer to potentially changing the way the state’s sex-offender registry is managed.
The Connecticut Sentencing Commission is holding a public hearing Thursday and reviewing several proposed changes following a two-year study that began in 2015.
“There was concern in the legislature, I think, that maybe Connecticut could find a better way to deal with sex offender registration, sex offender management,” Superior Court Judge Robert Delvin, chair of the Connecticut Sentencing Commission, said.
Among several proposed changes are three headliners. The first focuses on revamping the system by focusing on an offender’s risk versus the offender’s conviction. In other words, how likely that person is to re-offend.
The second proposal is a petition process through the Superior Court to remove an offender from the list. Currently in Connecticut, once an offender is on the registry, the person can’t be removed from it.
The third proposed change readjusts the public’s access to the list. Depending on the crime or risk of re-offending, some of the registry could only be seen by law enforcement. Right now, the public has access to the entire registry.
These changes would be outstanding. And the more states that adopt such changes, the more they will provide cover for a future Florida legislature to do the same.
How about NO registry and once we finish our court ordered sentence, we are free to go to live our lives like everybody else.
I like that one better Bobby and that should have been the 4th proposal.
Yeah keeping the slaves with hope just like emancipation. How the heck is it anyone’s job to figure any thing out about me I’m cattle or something? I EOSed 20 years ago. The registry was a call in hot line my attorney said I’d be off sex offender conditions when I got off probation took a plea bargain that isnt worth the paper it written on! If I wasn’t married I’d leave I hope everyday when I come home she wants a divorce to set her self free and me too!
Your comment denotes a lot of pain, understandably. Have some hope and look forward to better days. Your wife does not want to be free from you, she wants to be free with you. Hang in there; something’s got to give.
I am not trying to be mean or disrespectful. Some victims are not really victims. How many men went to jail because of: Lies, jealous, false statements given to the police, unlawful sting operations and entrapment most of all ineffective counsel. I have 4 out of the 6. anybody else?
My participant wrote me in prison after turning 18 and we dated after I got out. We got in a big argument I told her I was leaving her cause she cheated on me and she made up lies that got figured out only I didn’t know it was illeagle cause her mom called the police mad at me a couple years before I was 18 and they said there was nothing they could do. I even told her I didn’t want to date her if her parents weren’t ok with it but they invited me over for dinner a week later this was 20+ years ago I was immature and really cared about this girl and her family… she got hooked up with a shitty guy while I was in prison that got her pregnant introduced her to drugs. We’d date off and on when she got back on drugs I told her I didn’t want to be around it trying to bluff her to quit you know me or the drugs 2 weeks later she was dead.
And nix all the retro active, De post facto unconditional puishment, for the foundation of a Police State
Unconstitutional
Am I here detecting some form of logic being looked into for the first time in modern political history?
