An example of how residency laws are ineffective: Someone on the registry cannot live near a school where students are supervised by parents and teachers. Cities such as Mequon, WI have a residency law that prevents those on the registry from living near a police station. Cities have stricter restrictions and better ability to enforce the law, yet those on the registry are placed as far from supervision as possible. Someone on the registry cannot live near a park where there are often parents to supervise children. In areas without a park children play on the front lawn of someone on the registry since there is no park.

Wait.... Registration isn't a Punishment. Right? It's only a Civil Regulatory measure. BS. The fact that "lawmakers" and law enforcement routinely refer to it as punishment SHOULD be enough to lift the ridiculous shroud that they hide it under. It's a complete joke that it is "officially" a regulatory scheme, while it is consistently referred to it as what it really is... PUNISHMENT!!! What will it take for SCOTUS to get their heads out of the sand, or wherever else it is that they have them firmly planted, and put and end to this??

In the past the new ordinances and requirements have been targeted. Maybe it's time to start demanding a registry for Drug offenders and dealers with the same draconian laws. They will have the same "tough on Crime" feel and appeal. The politicians will eat it up.
Soon after the registry will become so overloaded that cost and strain will cause both to fall.
Then we would truly have a Happy Thanksgiving.

I’m nearly 70 years old, a life-long Floridian, and a Republican's since I was 18. After listening to the Criminal Justice Committee discussing HB 45, I was disgusted and at that moment determined that I would never claim to be a Republican again. The stupidity and hate-driven thoughtlessness of the Republican legislators was shocking to me - but probably not to most.

Whenever they introduce a law and it passes, a question always arises; "what happens to those whose adjudication has been withheld". The answer is I'm not sure, we will have to get back with you but no one ever does!
Adjudication withheld: They are not guilty in the eyes of the court. FDLE is a different story, one that I do not agree with. 2 tier system.

I try not to make this political and I know both parties have their strict views when it comes to the registry. However, we can thank the draconian and unforgivable views of republicans for such fear mongering and draconian registry. Time and time again it had been the republicans who vote for more, less forgiving registration laws. I have more conservative views and align with republicans. However, I find these registry laws outlandish. So I might need to change my political party and head back on over to the left. If this comment is allowed I say thank you. If not, I apologize. God bless.

It is for sure interesting especially when only 1% of PFR’s commit a second sex offense it would make since Florida scores an F. It is because they continue to punish the punished and not educate and prevent the other 99% of people committing the offenses.
