This is a valid point. Certainly not good news (for this guy) that he was caught, but good news for society that someone is not going to evade prosecution for a crime. We (including FAC) agree that people should be brought to justice for committing crimes.
The point that is positive (which you pointed out in your flip the script) is that technology exists that can be used to catch actual crimes and criminals, so all the public registration, residency restrictions, constant surveillance imposed on people who are not committing crimes is not the least restrictive means to accomplish society's goal of keeping kids safe.

Yes it is good news that he was caught, I don’t know the case and not judging the facts of the case. But going on the run doesn’t scream innocence…

But I hardly would call this good news, those on the registry are always going to be a target and this type of surveillance will ultimately result in harassment in some sort.. so I find it very unsettling that FAC would take the stance of facial recognition being used every time a law abiding citizen walks in front of a camera is a good thing.

But let’s flip the script for a minute and think about this, so the government is now using technology that can literally track our movements … so tell me why they need the registry? That could be a strong argument for it’s just used for public shaming

But was he on the registry already? First time offender perhaps? Asking for the 97% who don't belong on it in the first place.

I'd like to know from the ACLU LA if they are asking LA about the images these cameras take and the duration they intend to keep them or if they are secure for the duration they intend to keep them or if they are searching other state/Fed PFR databases using AI to track any and all PFRs (as well as others who have been convicted or perhaps Interpol given what happened during the parade with the vehicle). Can you image this system during Mardi Gras? Overwhelmed.

Even if there were cameras everywhere, legislators in Florida would still come up with a crazy reason like persons forced to register could somehow make themselves invisible to the cameras.
When these legislators are asked to explain their logic, they will simply say, " if it protects one child, then..."
The absurdity of the witch hunt by these folks will not ever go away, I am afraid

FAC still doesn't get, it as they have shown favoring so many technology "advances" in their blogs .

Most people here still don't get it when it comes to modern tracking technology.

Ben Franklin "got it" way back in 1770...

Benjamin Franklin said: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

Think about what you are giving up your freedom and personal rights guaranteed by the first amendment for a little safety before you accept more and more invasion into your personal space!

Seriously?? . Do you really believe that law enforcement or legislators would EVER do anything to make Registration less onerous for PFRs?? I know that you're in florida, but please pull your head out of the sand!

So, when can we expect human legislatures, the media, and public to catch up with technology and 1) reduce the onerous unnecessary and duplicate registration requirements, and 2) reduce the lesser, non-violent sex and thought crimes that plague our justice system.
