As some of you know I am an Iowa summer resident and member of Iowans Unafraid. Although it doesn't say so in this Newton News article, it is mostly our members they are talking about who have been attending their board meetings asking uncomfortable questions. PS Newton is a crappy little town but it's right on I-80 and you can get cheap gas there!

If it is the registry, or civil commitment, why can't they give someone a chance to prove themselves. Myself, and I am sure many others, would sign an agreement with the judge stating if they were arrested for any other sex offense, they could be sent to prison for life. Hell, I am so confident that I would not commit another offense, I would sign something stating they could execute me if they want because if I was that stupid to throw away a second chance, I deserve to be executed.

Is the civil commitment facility a for-profit entity? If so, that entity really needs to expect at least a minimal volume of new residents to remain profitable each year. Is there an unwritten (or maybe written) agreement between Iowa's BoC and the entity to provide those residents?
