constituentservices@ag.louisiana.gov

Request for Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Resignation

Dear Attorney General Murrill:

I am writing to ask for your resignation as Attorney General of Louisiana because of your public response to the sentencing of Carrol Ray Clark.

After announcing the case on X, you accompanied your celebration of his surgical castration with a scissors emoji.

That was not merely tasteless. It was ghoulish, degrading, and beneath the dignity of your office.

Sexual crimes against children are horrific, and those who commit them should be prosecuted vigorously and punished according to law. My objection is not to the seriousness of the prosecution. It is to the spectacle you made of the punishment.

You are the chief legal officer of the State of Louisiana. You hold enormous governmental power over the liberty and, in some cases, the bodies of human beings. That power demands sobriety, restraint, judgment, and respect for the rule of law.

There is a profound difference between administering a severe punishment and publicly reveling in it.

Whatever one's view of Louisiana's castration law, the permanent surgical alteration of a human body by authority of the state is an extraordinarily grave matter. Reducing it to a scissors emoji on social media conveyed not the solemn administration of justice, but apparent delight in another person's physical mutilation.

Justice may be firm. It may sometimes be severe. But it should never become sadistic theater.

The rule of law matters most when government deals with people society despises. An Attorney General need not feel sympathy for a convicted sex offender, but the state's chief legal officer should be capable of distinguishing justice from vengeance.

Your post failed that test.

In my view, it demonstrated a serious lack of the judgment, restraint, and temperament required of someone entrusted with the enormous coercive power of the state.

For that reason, I respectfully but emphatically call upon you to resign as Attorney General of Louisiana.

The people of Louisiana deserve an Attorney General who can enforce even the harshest laws without appearing to take personal pleasure in the suffering those laws impose.

Respectfully,

The state attorney general posted a pair of scissors icon on her X post announcing the sentence.
That was extremely inappropriate and unprofessional.
In my opinion, it shows that she is mentally imbalanced.
(And they call US perverts!)

To whoever is always censoring me and truth, karma corrects on ALL wrongs. You’re not helping your self or anyone else. My comment did not violate any terms. This feels personal.

Violation of the First Amendment is ALWAYS UNconstitutional. Do you realize the irony? Remember that every time YOUR voice is silenced and you whine and cry about the registry being unconstitutional. There’s more freedom of speech on X and Google than here. That’s sayin’ a lot.

Karma is a bitch.

OMG PLEASE STOP! THAT IS STILL NOT OK!
The government does not have any authority to do what they’re doing and have no authority over our bodies or who we choose to love!

I am currently navigating the difficulties of living with a sex offender designation in Florida due to an incident involving an image I did not personally send. During a period of emotional distress, friends were using a dating site, and after an inappropriate image was shared by another individual, the age of the recipient was misrepresented, leading to my arrest shortly thereafter. As there is no victim involved in this situation, I find it challenging to reconcile these circumstances with my identity as an ordinary person who has no intention of causing harm. I am simply seeking to integrate into society despite the challenges posed by this label. I do not think to harm anyone in anyway actually served my country just like machiavelli and many on here. What about wrongfully accused as well? There's is always a percentage in judicial that can be in that group.

Hey MR D, what about the folks like me who are forced to imprisonment and registration but are innocent or otherwise don't qualify on any psychological analysis of being a rapist or pedophile as you put it? Are you saying people like us must be subjected to some medieval medical procedure or draconian punishment like meds or castration we don't want? What happened to "my body, my choice"?
