Jm – I understand what you are saying but remember many of the crimes RSO’s are convicted of were not even crimes 10 or 15 years ago – others were misdemeanors. My point is before the Nazis could justify the actions of the Holocaust, normal every day things were made crimes if they were done by a Jew. The same thing applies to segregation in the USA – things were made crimes if they were committed by a person of color. The segregation in itself was not the greatest outrage (although it was bad enough) it was instead the fact that violating those rules was a crime and many times death occurred and vigilantes were rampant. Although, I agree that the situations are vastly different there are many things that are the same. The interim camps for the Japanese – Americans during WWII was similar. Certainly, one thing all of these situations have in common is that they were allowed because the general public was controlled and driven by FEAR. Fear based on misinformation and out-right bigotry and lies. If we could somehow educate the general public to the truth about RSOs, their crimes, and the psychology behind them we would see things change a great deal. The myth about stranger danger is alive and well – even in my own family no matter how many times we talk about it and I show them statistics – they forget and drink the kool-aid (that is until I rein them back in a remind them of the truth – LOL)
