That is because they make stuff up, just like people who quote that 98% of sex offenders will re-offend. If it is someone of importance, then others pick up on that and re-use it in their classes, speeches, press conferences , news stories etc.

I’m glad that USA Today exposed that nonsense. It gives me a sliver of hope when I see one of the big media outlets talk about this.

Although, when people say that “much of their information is public anyway” tells me that they truly don’t value freedom. I suppose that doxing someone or sharing their social security number is “okay” simply because “the information is out there anyway.”

With the obsession with “watching out for sex offenders,” it made me dream of weird inventions, like a ‘smart camera’ on a tie or some clothing that blinded cameras when another camera was directed its way.

An interesting story. It starts off with the vaccine I.D’s then diverts the attention to sex offenders and predator I.Ds.

I cannot wait until facial recognition cameras are everywhere. When someone on the registry passes by, an alert is sent to all phones and the loud speaker in the train station. It announces , “Attention Good Citizens of Gotham city. Please be aware a registered sex offender is in the area, proceed with caution”.
Then a pop comes up on every phone in the area with a photo of the registered person.

Anyway, when the lawyers were arguing over the case, one of the people in the court room testified that sex offenders have a 98% re-offense rate? LOL Statements like this are seen by law enforcement and other officials when they watch the shows and take it as truth because it must be if it “Was on the tv”. Then they turn around and testify in court using that 98% theory as the gospel but fail to be asked by anyone (Even the defense) “Officer could you please site the proof of those statistics?”

And not just cops and lawyers. The public watches these shows like SUV special crimes unit and Americas most wanted. They take every word for the truth. If the news says a sex offender was re-arrested, they fail to mention it was maybe a simple paperwork oversight instead they leave that out making it seem as if they raped a child.

And we have all seen some of the Sheriff’s, especially here in Florida who spent untold amounts of money on stings and compliance checks that net maybe a few people for petty offenses (Or made up crimes) and yet they tout the arrests as taking Charles Mason into custody.

And do not even get me started on the funding law enforcement gets for showing how much crime is in their area. If there was not crimes, cops would be losing their jobs. That is why so many small town cops set up speed traps. No crime means no job. write 20-30 tickets in a shift and get a bonus in your check.
