Opponents say the bill, rushed to the floor without a hearing, would dangerously expand what’s considered an “aggravated offense.”
Republicans in the House passed a bill this morning that would reclassify dozens of federal crimes as “crimes of violence,” making them deportable offenses under immigration law. Criminal justice advocacy groups say the bill, rushed to the floor without a single hearing, is unnecessary, is overbroad, and will intensify the problem of overcriminalization.
The Community Safety and Security Act of 2018, H.R. 6691, passed the House by a largely party-line vote of 247–152. Among the crimes that it would make violent offenses are burglary, fleeing, and coercion through fraud.
…Democrats and criminal justice groups also objected to the speed at which the bill sailed to the House floor. It was introduced just a week ago and did not have a single hearing or markup prior to today’s vote.
Follow the money to private prisons and their investors.
Isn’t this what happened when they voted for Obama the international law? What in the world is going on that swift justice has become the norm.
Anyone who still thinks Republicans and Democrats are the same? Wake up! Just look at the two gubernatorial candidates. DeSatanist is focused on depriving and punishing:
End Pensions in Congress Act
No Exemption for Washington from ObamaCare
Term Limits
Drain the Swamp Act
Targeting Child Predators Act
Exposing the Congressional Hush Fund
While Gillum is focused on reform, growth , and rights:
Criminal Justice Reform
Economy and Jobs
Education
Environment
Gun Safety
Healthcare
Immigration
LGBTQ Equality
Puerto Rico
Women’s Rights
Seems a clear choice to me.
AHHHHH, the fear of God when “justice” comes into play
I just received a call from Congressman Posey’s office to let me know that the HR bill passed. His office assistant asked me for recommendations. That is a first for me…to get a phone call from a congressman’s office. It was a pleasant break from the numerous ‘begging calls’ I receive every day. Congressman Posey is one of the few officials that I respect. President Trump is another.
Bill Posey is a mostly fair representative. There are many out there. I think many in FAC are going after Republicans unfairly. There are many Republicans/Libertarians in this organization, whether members, volunteers, or supporters. And we have many allies or potential allies in both the Republican and Libertarian parties. We should be reading out to them instead of berating them. I think we should be reaching out to Bill Posey, Rand Paul, Thomas Massie, Justin Amash, and even Glenn Jacobs. There are many candidates who didn’t get elected or aren’t running, but could be powerful allies including Michael Snyder, Gary Johnson, Ron Paul, John McAfee, Austin Petersen, etc.
How any RSO can support Trump is beyond me. If Trump had his way, we’d already be in FEMA camps waiting to be gassed.
