MJ- Being a registered citizen myself I am aware of the issues of which you speak. In full disclosure I am affiliated with FAC by way of membership and recommend that if you are not a member it is in your best interest to become one. That being said I can also state my support of FAC in the manner of their priorities.

Having gone through the counseling system I can say that it did me a great deal of good. However, I will offer another angle:

What would our future fight look like if we totally embrace the "requirement" of counseling to build a foundation of an argument stating, "If the State believes so strongly in the need for S.O. Counseling, then surely the State recognizes its effectiveness. And being the that the State recognizes counsing's effectiveness, the State must also recognize S.O. Counseling results, should it not? "

Just a thought...

Some may already know this, but the Salvation Army runs community service probation in Jacksonville. When I found out, I stopped donating anything to them.

FAC has some higher priorities - like getting people back in their homes, reuniting families, protecting constitutional rights. Though this is noted, this is low on the list of BS we are working to address.

Yeah, good luck with all of this! It's so true though. Florida MANDATES weekly treatment for sex offenders on probation, and of course, the average probation term is at least 5 years of more. So on top of barely being able to find a job, I'm supposed to dish out $25-$30 a pop EVERY WEEK for "treatment." On top of all of that, the probation office dictates and assigns you to your treatment program, therefore, eliminating your ability to choose where you go for it. And of course, there are limited options in the county you live in. And if you don't like your treatment you're in, asking your PO to refer you to another treatment program is damn near impossible. I was actually treated suspiciously for even asking to be transferred!! Um, excuse me, if I'm paying for something out of my own pocket I should be able to CHOOSE what I'm paying for should I not?? Isn't that what CAPITALISM is all about??!! Not if you're under the thumb of the "justice" system/complex! This has been my experience for the past year. And furthermore, these therapists are more in cahoots with the PO's and are looking for reasons to violate you and send you back to prison, therefore continuing to feed the prison complex beast. Is there any hope for us??!! What is FAC planning on doing to fight this in Florida?
