A television arrest gives viewers more than a mugshot. It can show moments before and after someone is taken into custody. But even with a camera present, important parts of the story may remain out of view.

An official On Patrol: Live excerpt, associated with the February 28, 2026 episode, shows an arrest in Knox County, Tennessee. The program identifies Officer David Calhoun. His opening account describes roughly nine felony warrants connected with registry violations. The warrants themselves are not shown.

The footage says “Previously in Knox County.” The actual arrest date remains unconfirmed.

Watch the complete public excerpt
Approach, arrest, officer recap and phone-search explanation

https://floridaactioncommittee.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/01-complete-official-clip.mp4

Source: On Patrol: Live, official public clip. Approximately 3 minutes, 32 seconds. Much of the physical encounter occurs out of view. Keep the source-credit strip visible.

Watch before judging

Much of the physical encounter happens inside while the camera stays outside. The man complains about how he was treated. Officers describe resistance. The excerpt cannot settle those competing accounts.

We are not excusing past harm or dismissing warrants. We are asking how a person is treated when officers arrive. Tone, clear instructions and the level of force can affect how an encounter unfolds. Everyone’s safety matters.

Some people sharing their experiences with FAC describe aggressive arrests in Florida. Those accounts deserve review, but they do not prove officers deliberately make arrests harsher. Are tactics based on the risks present and the person’s actions, or on assumptions attached to a label?

Who are “they”?

During his recap, Calhoun appears to say:

“He wanted to fight a little bit, but they always do.”

Who does “they” mean? People being arrested? People he considers violent? People on the registry? The excerpt does not clearly say. We should not expand it into a claim about every registrant or anyone legally classified as a predator.

Still, broad language deserves scrutiny. People have different histories, health needs and behavior. One person’s actions cannot tell us how everyone else will act.

The ICAC connection

Later, another officer discusses taking three phones to an Internet Crimes Against Children task force office for examination. A planned search does not establish that illegal content was found.

ICAC is a national network of 61 task forces, covering all 50 states. Some regional partnerships also reach territories: North Florida’s grant record includes the U.S. Virgin Islands. We have not verified coverage of every territory.

FAC has examined related questions in Child Safety, Decoys and Public Cost and Public Safety or Overenforcement?

Protecting children and treating people fairly belong together. FAC seeks to abolish Florida’s registry and replace blanket restrictions with effective approaches to safety. Clear evidence, survivor support and human dignity must guide that work.

EDITORIAL NOTE

Audi et ipse iudica.

Listen and judge for yourself.

This commentary examines the program’s presentation. It does not determine whether force or a search was lawful. A registry label and a planned examination are not proof of a new crime against a child.

Descriptions of warrants, registry status, resistance and planned searches are attributed to the program or officers. The warrant documents, search results and court outcome have not been independently verified. The excerpt does not establish whom the officer meant by “they.”
