My friend is an RSO in hospital but needs to transfer to rehab for continued health care but none will allow an RSO. Any ideas?

I have been assuring people, look at the risk tier-based registry that those and other states have been returning to, and keep in mind that Florida one day may be forced (by squeezed law enforcement budgets, turnover in the legislature, or other factors) to adopt something similar. A few states don’t even put low risk offenders on the internet, as that ties up police resources responding to community complaints. And some higher risk offenders can turn their behaviors around over time and “graduate” to a better tier.

I don’t know what other FAC members think about this, but in lieu of total abolition, which is a lot farther off, I want this. Can you tell?

Let us know what we can do to help.

One of our legislative efforts will be to pursue a "tiered registry" bill like they just implemented in California and Missouri.
Ours would tier based on current risk, not offense.

Current risk includes consideration of dynamic risk factors, such as age, time since offense, criminal history, etc.

With respect for your expertise (and thank you for reviving this important topic), bigger question to me is why we would ever treat somebody who requires continuous nursing care, or who cannot handle activities of daily living, as a threat to anybody.

Administration has a right to know whether a resident poses a risk to other residents, visitors, or, if they wander off, people in the vicinity. But that risk is not present just because somebody is a registered sex offender. Particularly in a state that mandates life registration. And residents should not have the right to other residents’ dirty laundry.

Preaching to the choir I know.

Good article as a nurse , one solution for nursing home could be a separate wing added for offenders . But it might also present a problem for the caregivers staff. People aren’t always forgiving especially if they were involved in something relative to this in family years past . The reason for that wing would have to be withheld from staff . Only available to Administration
