I wish registrants could comment on these articles without having to register with FDLE. It makes it really difficult to engage in anonymous speech when you need to register who made the comment so that a simple FOIA or Public Information request can let anyone discover who made a “pro sex offender” comment and where they live.

If the internet identifier requirement didn’t chill freedom of speech, more people would contribute insightful and factual comments.

So so sooooo glad that WP is picking this as their hobby horse for the week. At first I was dreading the backlash on the Fogle case, but it seems like at least one MAJOR news outlet is giving voice to relevant discussion, and not in a one-off article. So happy to see the comment section on the WP site for this not filled with the same old stuff from Derek (I love ya Derek, but unfortunate bickering between you and the Valigator does no one any good) and filled with hundreds of comments having a pretty valid (well, as close as valid as you can get in an internet comment section,anyway :P) discussion on the issue of what to do with SOs. I sincerely hope it spills over into the public consciousness.

Good post but I don’t think “it’s nearly impossible to understand” why adult male would find 15-17 year old girls sexually atractive. While I don’t condone acting on it, it’s completely normal to find girls in that age range atractive. 15 is age of consent in many european countries. For all that we know about this case, Fogle does not seem to be a pedophile unless the girls in porn pics were pre-pubescent.
