This opinion piece was just published on Trinidad’s Newsday site. It was written by Angelique V. Nixon, a victim. She asks: “Does a sex register actually solve and prevent sexual offences? Will a sex offender register make us feel safe? What about rehabilitation? What about the problem of reporting and convictions, and lack of faith in a broken criminal justice system? And what about survivors?.”

Trinidad is currently debating a bill that would strengthen the country’s sex offender registry. It has seen plenty of online opposition.
