When did Volusia County start that?

The lady that sits at the registration desk in Marion told me if it’s not my car and not registered at that address they don’t want or need it. My mother was visiting from out of town and I assumed the requirement was that because the vehicle was at my house for several days it was required. She assured me it was not unless I owned the car or the DMV had it listed at my address. Still makes me nervous.

There are no FDLE Rules. There are Florida Statutes that define what must be reported. If anyone wants to reference what information is required to be provided you can check Florida Statute 943.0435.

Florida Department of law enforcement has an entire list of things you must register. Some local sheriff’s office try and bend the rules and make up their own rules.

The FDLE rules include many requirements such as registering your work / business, Your home address, vehicles, boat and vessels, travel and a long list of other requirements. You might go a year or more without reporting something before getting caught but not worth not reporting as that might land you in prison. And saying “I didn’t know”, even if you didn’t know, is NOT an excuse per the law makers.
A simple paperwork error could land someone in jail. I once had to correct an error they made to my updates as they had not removed a vehicle from my list that I no longer owned. It took them a freaking year to remove it from my page.

Yes employment registration is required.

That’s not required under Statute. They can legally ask for any information that they wish however they cannot require it. Please check the printed copy of your registration that you initial at each registration and compare it to the FDLE requirements. There was a situation out of highland county that they possibly rewrote the requirements. It’s always best to review the Statute vs what they hand you.
