<p style="font-size: 18px; text-align: center;">Children deserve to be safe. People who have been hurt deservecare. Families deserve clear facts when the news talks about Florida’s sex offense registry.</p>
<p style="font-size: 18px; text-align: center;"><a style="color: #00767d; text-decoration: underline;" href="https://www.clickorlando.com/video/news/2026/10/24/increase-in-sex-offenders-noted-in-florida-data-shows/">News 6 reported that the number is growing.<br />
</a><br />
But the numbers need context. <a style="color: #00767d; text-decoration: underline;" href="https://oppaga.fl.gov/Documents/Reports/24-11.pdf#page=7">OPPAGA, Florida’s research office, </a>counted 86,207 people on the registry in October 2024. Only 30,907 lived in Florida communities. About 63% were in custody or did not live in Florida.</p>
<p style="font-size: 18px; text-align: center;">From 2021 to 2024, the community count grew by <strong style="color: #0b1f36;">727 across all 67 Florida counties combined—an increase of 2.4%.<br />
</strong></p>
<div style="margin: 24px 0px; padding: 22px; background: #f0f8f5; border-left: 5px solid #46b85c; border-radius: 0px 8px 8px 0px; text-align: center;">
<p style="margin: 0; font-size: 19px;">During those same years, <a style="color: #00767d; text-decoration: underline;" href="https://edr.state.fl.us/Content/conferences/population/archives/250204demographic.pdf#page=3">Florida’s population grew by 1,115,606 people, or <strong>5.1%</strong>. </a><strong>Florida’s overall population grew more than twice as fast as the number of registered people living in its communities.<br />
</strong></p>
<p style="margin: 14px 0 0; font-size: 14px; color: #536b76;">These figures cover the same years, though different months. Population estimates are for April; registry counts are for September 2021 and October 2024.</p>
</div>
<p style="font-size: 18px; text-align: center;">FAC covered this broader issue in <a style="color: #00767d; text-decoration: underline;" href="https://floridaactioncommittee.org/florida-registry-public-safety-overenforcement/">“Florida’s Registry Keeps Growing. Public Safety or Overenforcement?”<br />
</a></p>
<p style="font-size: 18px; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: 18pt;"><strong style="color: #0b1f36;">Our own analysis </strong></span>found 30,588 unique records in a separate community file. About 78% were marked released but still required to register. The file was supplied October 6, 2026. Its original creationdate is unconfirmed, so it cannot prove a decline since 2024. Behind these numbers are parents, older adults, children, and families trying to live in peace.</p>
<p style="margin: 26px 0px; font-size: 24px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 1.5; color: #0b1f36; text-align: center;">Is this just a scare tactic, or are the numbers being share without the full story?</p>
<p style="font-size: 18px; text-align: center;">A growing list alone does not show rising sexual crime. News coverage should help people understand the facts. Protecting children, supporting survivors, and treating families with care all matter.</p>
<div style="margin: 28px 0px; padding: 24px; background: #0b1f36; border-top: 4px solid #46b85c; border-radius: 0px 0px 8px 8px; text-align: center;">
<p style="margin: 0; font-size: 18px; color: #ffffff;"><strong style="color: #79df8c;"><br />
Florida Action Committee is always here to help reporters with these investigations, check the figures, and share the sources behind them.<br />
</strong><br />
Getting the numbers right matters. These stories shape how people see their neighbors and how families are treated.<br />
The public deserves the full picture.</p>
