FAC President to Testify before Senate Criminal Justice Subcommittee
***UPDATE*** The bill was not heard yesterday – We will advise when it will be scheduled.
The lifetime GPS bill will be discussed in the Senate Criminal Justice Subcommittee today.
This is a horrible, nonsensical bill that will place everyone convicted of a “sex offense” on lifetime GPS after October, 2015.
It makes no distinction between someone that looks at inappropriate images on their computer from the privacy of their own home and someone who abducted and raped a child in a school yard. It makes no distinction between a first time offender and a serial rapist. Everyone gets a life sentence!
Offenders will have to cover the cost of monitoring and if they can’t afford to do so, they will earn a new third degree felony and go back to jail.
It is critical that we reach out to our legislators and express opposition to this horrible bill.

Hopefully even without someone on the inside there will be a few people voting that have some common sense about this! This bill is insane (we all know that) – I think they will have a lot of trouble with this one and lawyers will challenge it because unless they are willing to impose this as part of the sentence (making it part of the criminal code which now will make the sentence imposed a lifetime sentence) they are going to have a very hard time forcing Registered Citizens to comply and pay for it. In other words this goes far and beyond civil protection.
On a side note given the statement about RSOs not voting – I always laugh and say my son is a lawmakers worse nightmare – he is a Registered Citizen that had adjudication withheld and therefore is allowed to vote – and he does every time!
I watched the Senate meeting.today. did not see Gail present?? Can someone let us know what happened
Howard – the bill was not heard today. Gail will be updating on the next member call.
Now do you see why we need someone on the inside? These legislators ARE NOT. My legislators. They declared me and you the enemy. They are not our legislators. We need people to run for these seats under any platform whatsoever just so long as we get these people out and we have at least one person on the inside. With one we can hear and have a REAL voice. With more than one we can make changes. And once they know that their positions are in jeopardy because of these actions then maybe they will stop all this nonsense.
James,
Why do you think that Florida doesn’t want to restore voters rights to RSO’s? They don’t want you to have a voice.
