FAC Submits Complaint to FL Attorney General Regarding Bogus Stings

Today, the Florida Action Committee submitted a written complaint to Attorney General Pam Bondi requesting the office investigate the bogus sting operations taking place in our State.

The stings, which have been uncovered and widely reported on recently, resulted in many innocent individuals unjustly saddled with the sex offender label, railroaded into plea deals and having their assets seized.

A copy of the letter, which can be found here, was sent to the US Attorney General’s Office as well as the Florida Office of the Inspector General.

FAC wishes to thank and credit Trey Gennette for his courage and persistence in originally bringing this to light. Trey was a victim of these stings but, unlike most, he had the courage to fight back and prove his innocence. Although he is not a registered sex offender he continues to fight for those who are not so lucky.

Many innocent people didn’t have the money for an attorney, they didn’t have the fortitude to fight or didn’t want to risk jail time at all cost, so they accepted a BS plea that landed them on the registry for life.

These people have been victimized for years and it’s time they get off the shaming list and their offenders get prosecuted! Trey’s persistence will hopefully one day save the lives and families of many of these people!

This stings are totally bogus. How is it that a high school graduate with a badge and gun is allowed to use deception–a form of coercion–to induce a person to commit a crime and wreck that person’s life? In no other vocation is deception / force allowed to take place. These stings are unethical, do not capture pedophiles, and are an exaggerated response to a perceived threat of harm to children. The truth is, most 14, 15, and 16 year olds would stop talking to someone online (and offline) with someone who is much, much older than them. These internet sex stings are a witch hunt–a moral panic.

These “stings” are very troubling. It’s a slippery slope for sure. Our Consitution should be held as the highest regard.

Since my son is presently in prison for this scam. I am very interested in the outcome. Every time I see something my son would be interested I send it so him. He has been doing a lot of research and hopes to get released and help Trey with his fight. I have been trying to write and do whatever I can to help. My son was going to fight. At the last minute the Judge told his lawyer that if went to court and lost it would cost him 20 years or he could take five without going to court. How could he take that chance. Juries are so emotional when it comes to children that they are easily swayed that they are automatically guilty.

That seems to be the recurring theme. Take this plea or we intend to charge you with … and you’ll be facing 20 years. Especially with CP cases. Take 5 years or they will charge you with a separate count for each image and you’ll be facing 20 years!

With these bogus sting cases, people always ask “if they weren’t guilty why did they take the plea?” They don’t understand that in this country, you’re threatened with decades behind bars unless you agree to take something that seems light by comparison. It’s purely time economics.

My son also got set up on their entrapments on the internet, pretending you are talking on an adult site and they switch and bait. So many very good men being lied to and wrecking their lives. Sure wish there was a committee there to in Arizona as they are just blowing them in the jails there.

Our son is a victim of a police sting. He was a top achieving college student and they have ruined his life. I would love to be kept informed of any progress. Jennifer Johnson

Jennifer – we will certainly update our site with any developments. In the interim, we suggest being proactive. The more the truth is exposed, the less of a stigma your son will have to live with.
