Florida Seeks to Charge "Offender Registration Fees".

HB 1261 seeks to impose an “Offender Registration Fee” which permits the Sheriff of each county to charge sexual offenders an annual fee of up to $100 and $200 for predators.

Non-residents who register when they visit Florida will be charged a $300 initial registration fee.

Failure to pay this fee (unless waived) is a second degree misdemeanor.

You can view the bill text here, beginning on line 114.

Is FL becoming desperate for money? What about all the CHILDREN who are on the registry? Who Pays for them? This is just getting so ridiculous. Advocates and the like should be on the war path to get these idiotic legislators out of office and do something that REALLY protects children!!

They have already been charging $25 a pop to re-register. I guess now that they are making it “legal,” they are doubling the fee! But wait, registration is not punitive…
