Is this really news?!?! Sex Offenders at Yard Sales?

So there are a lot of news stories this week about a yard sale in Apopka, FL where sex offenders worked. The yard sale was to benefit the Lighthouse Mission, a charitable organization that houses primarily sex offenders. The “big deal” is that some children’s articles were sold at the yard sale and now the news reporters (not so much the neighbors) are all up in arms.

First, the Lighthouse Mission houses 32 sex offenders. The yard sale takes place on their property. Do an FDLE neighborhood search for 2554 Overland Rd in Apopka and they come right up. If neighbors are so “shocked” to learn that sex offenders live there, the registry is a worthless tool.

Secondly, it’s not like this was a toy fair or carnival – among other household items were children’s items and if they are going to start regulating what registrants can or can’t sell at a yard sale, they should ban sex offenders from working at Ford dealerships because the kids love that new Mustang.

Finally, Cherish Perrywinkle was kidnapped from a Walmart and Adam Walsh from a Sears. These happened not because the stores sold toys, but because of negligent parental supervision. Did anything happen at this yard sale? Has anything happened in the past at the Lighthouse Mission yard sales? Is it just a slow news week in Florida and we need a good “sex offender” story to get ratings?

What i would like to know is: What other so called group of citizens of the United States of America have laws that relate specifically to them without it being tied into what is perceived as a privilege? ie. operating a vehicle, owning a firearm, etc…

I lived there for three years and i have the utmost respect for the reverend that runs it. I recently moved out and since challenged the court to early terminate my probation and won. wftv.com has been the worst for perpetuating half truths.no one there has committed another crime. Theres been a few technical violations.and thats it. I own my home in ocoee, fla for 18 years and cannot live there because of city ordinance stating i cannot llve anywhere in the city. I would love to see state of florida challenged as did california did on residency resrtictions.
