Resources for Persons Required to Register as Sex Offenders

FAC has prepared a one-page, two-sided flyer containing Resources for Persons Required to Register as Sex Offenders.

On side one you will find links to the registration statutes, municipal ordinances, where you need to go to register, criminal defense attorneys, etc. On the back, you will find FACTS about persons required to register, including recidivism rates, efficacy of policies (rather, lack of efficacy) and links to the studies and reports supporting these facts.

It is our hope that the flyer will serve as a resource to those required to register and help educate the public.

The link to the flyer is here: RESOURCES FOR PERSONS REQUIRED TO REGISTER AS SEX OFFENDERS

Please print copies (double sided) of the flyer and leave them at your local registration office, treatment provider, or simply share them with others who might need to use it as a reference or who might benefit from learning more about the registry.

FAC, thank you for this information sheet. Since education is our first line of attack it will help out very much. If we are so fortunate as to get to discuss our situation(s) with a legislator we must be prepared to educate. From my experience in Washington, we have many bureaucrats in positions of authority who do not have a clue as to their responsibilities and obligations. Many occupy a desk and a bi-weekly paycheck and that is the limit of their concerns.

I love the fact that you have placed a resource sheet out there but having said that. It’s time for a fact check. Your second one down is misleading and incorrect of the new sex crimes that are committed those that are done by first-time offenders, that is people who have their first conviction in a sex crime is not 93% according to the Department of Justice statistics it is 99.973% of the new sex crimes are committed by first-time offenders see graph ( http://sosen.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/1994-97-Graph.jpg ). Also the re-offense rate for people on the registry is not 5% or even 3% it is in fact less than 1% the data is out there advocates need to start pushing the fact that people on the registry

    1. Have a re-offense rate of less than 1% and

    2. Of the new sex crimes they are involved in less than 1%.

    http://sosen.org/blog/2017/06/21/who-really-commits-new-sex-crimes-2.html

Even the latest Department of Justice study when actually looking at the hard numbers shows a re-offense rate of less than 1% http://sosen.org/blog/2019/06/07/a-limited-study-done-by-the-department-of-justice-still-proves-that-registrants-have-the-lowest-re-offense-rate.html

This is not a new phenomena studies going back to pre-registry and pretreatment programs show a super low re-offense rate even back then. The Jack study done in 1962 tracked over 4000 offenders for over 15 years and showed a yearly re-offense rate of 2/10 of 1% this is the type of information that needs to be spread throughout the advocate community and especially passed along to attorneys who are involved in trying to restore our constitutional rights.
