How Norway turns criminals into good neighbours

What is the point of sending someone to prison – retribution or rehabilitation? Twenty years ago, Norway moved away from a punitive “lock-up” approach and sharply cut reoffending rates. The BBC’s Emma Jane Kirby went to see the system in action, and to meet prison officers trained to serve as mentors and role models for prisoners.

Human life is not valued in the United States. Just look at the number of homeless children and the number of children affected by the RIDICULES and useless registry either by having a parent on it OR more commonly being listed themselves!

No, America is a vengeful place with hate filled Politicians who spew their poisonous rhetoric using the faceless minority they artificially created called “sex offenders”.

America is all image. “Land of the Free” is quite the marketing slogan which turns out to be totally a lie!

I hope that others have reached the conclusion you have. But many more must reach it before change can come. Even more, many more must be willing to act. We cannot change the system in the USA, but we can form interest groups and use the power that we have to defend your right to sane and humane treatment.
The more careerist politicians see “sex-offenders” as the perfect storm for political power, the more they increase the registries, meaning that more registrants are available to participate in boycotts of all American products.
Creationg of voting blocs, legal defense funds, and more are possible if we organize.

What an amazing approach and story! The prisoners are treated better in prison than many who have committed sex offenses are treated in their own communities…after their prison sentences are completed. A “pound of blood” is much more the goal in the US than effective corrective action. Destroy individuals and their families to get the ‘pound’.

I saw something like this in a Micheal Moore film where the prison he visited didn’t even have walls because it was on a island. Some prisoners had jobs so they were ferried to shore every day and returned every evening others learned employable skills all geared to the reality that one day this person would be someone’s neighbor. Here we are so hell bent on retribution even after completion of the sentence because some politicians don’t want to look soft on crime.Prison was the most traumatic experience of my life couple that with the never ending reminders by the government that I once did something wrong I still struggle with depression. Lot’s of things need to change before something like this could even be tried here. The best line in the article is They are losing their freedom not their liberties they are still human beings.
