WI: Asking for a lawsuit
Despite advice from the city attorney, Lake Geneva aldermen voted tonight not to relax an ordinance that virtually bans sex offender from living in the city.
City Attorney Dan Draper had urged aldermen to ease a current 2,000-foot buffer for sex offenders living near schools, parks and playgrounds. Draper warned that the ordinance was illegal, overly restrictive, and likely to lose any court challenge. A federal judge in Wisconsin recently ruled that a similar measure in another Wisconsin city was unconstitutional.
But with strong public sentiment against a relaxed rule — at least on social media — a majority of Lake Geneva aldermen voted to leave the virtual ban on sex offenders on the books.
Can’t wait for the aldermen to get sued and cost the citizens of Lake Geneva tens of thousands in attorney’s fees.

Maybe if judges starting awarding plaintiffs punitive damages for losses suffered, perhaps these localities would think twice about flagrantly violating people’s rights. This case sounds ripe for the judiciary to make an example of willfully unlawful actions by rogue cities against their own legal counsel.
Their municipal insurer should drop them for not taking the advice of counsel.
I hope they will be dragged into the eastern district of Wisconsin by Adele Nichols.
I guess the idiot alderman has more juice than the city attorney. Look for him to resign when the lawsuit is filed. It seems DeBary and Lake Geneva are sister $hities.
