OH: Lawmaker proposes bill to prevent sexting teens from winding up on registry

An Ohio state lawmaker has proposed banning sexting for those 18 and under.

Underage sexting is already illegal, but Senate Bill 239, introduced Wednesday, carves out a legal definition that makes it a less-serious offense than other crimes involving sexual images of minors.

The bill’s sponsor, state Sen. Nathan Manning, a North Ridgeville Republican, said his proposed law is meant to prevent minors from facing charges that would force them to register as a sex offender.

Wow……why don’t they just ban sex….problem solved. Arrest everyone you think might be having sex and put them on the registry. Ban porn on the internet, track it daily to make sure it doesn’t pop back up, you know censure our internet. I was told by a sex therapist they could not ban porn that it comes from the “deep” and would just pop back up. I told her well….how do China and other communist countries stop what they do not want their citizens to see and hear from the “West”? She really had no answer but I told her I already knew why we “allow” such things…MONEY………And in case someone does not recognize it, the first part was sarcasm…..

Rather than making new laws why not just make it an obligation to notify the parents of those involved and ask that they take core of it. Why does the state feel it’s there obligation to do parenting for everyone?
Someone please tell me where the back door is I want off this planet.

Your solution requires having some common sense, and I see very little of that today.

Well, not to have to bring politics into this but I have to bring politics into this in order to answer that question about why the schools don’t just let parents handle their kids’ bad behavior… Because the “tolerant” liberal left/democrats want BIG GOVERNMENT and communism. Well, here’s a taste of it for them.
I, being an independent, although leaning a bit conservative in some views, was actually shocked that it’s a republican who is trying to keep teenagers off the registry. But liberals embrace pre-teen drag queens yet are always the first ones to cry “Just believe her!!” with no evidence. So don’t ever expect the Dems to change sex offense laws. EVER.

Dems changed the sex offense laws in California. FL legislature, though, is Republican-controlled.

FL maybe Republican controlled but the Book family are Democrats and they literally are controlling everything from what I’m reading and seeing (in videos) about them.
Seems no one wants to go against whatever Ronnie demands. He’s just a man. Not an immortal celestial being. Maybe Floriduh needs to a lawsuit going directly after him and his little “princess” daughter.

I don’t think I’d drag Republican/Democrat into this. I expect they are all awful. I’m not sure which of them want bigger government and more spending. The Republican swamp in Washington these days is doing a great job at growing big government and blowing obscene amounts of money. A friend told me the other day that our national debt is over $23 trillion. I can’t stand to look so I don’t know if that is right or not. I would’ve guess around $21. But they are all a swamp for sure.

The key problem is that Amerika is FULL of morons and politicians will pander to it. Gonna be hard to beat the morons since they aren’t very interested in facts or reality.

I don’t know but big government ought to be maybe 1/1,000th of its current size. Stop with all the “laws”. Eliminate the idiotic Registries. End the completely failed War on Drugs and the government drug/prison enterprise. No drug should be illegal, it’s only made all problems worse.

Get out of our lives. Let’s make Amerika a free country for once.

70% of the federal budget pays for social security, medicare and the milatary. Not many want cuts there. That leaves 30% or about one trillion dollars for EVERYTHING else. I do agree we should make cuts on some of the issues you mentioned.

          Will Allen,

Actually, conservatives do NOT want big government. Liberals do. They want the government to tell people how to live and what to think and feel.
Do some research. Turning Point USA for starters.
I’m not saying that either party doesn’t have anger towards those with sex offenses (let’s face it, media and families like the Kankas and Wetterlings pushing for laws like this have made EVERYONE hate you based on your crime) but at least the conservatives don’t want big government. Another thing with conservatives that you can argue them with is their proud Christianity. Let ‘em know that they chose to believe in “forgiveness” so they better start learning to forgive.
