UPDATED AGAIN: CALL TO ACTION: Correct a FALSE STATISTIC in a Florida Article

News4Jax just posted a story in which their “crime and safety expert” Ken Jefferson (@kenjefferson_) made the FALSE claim that “Statistics have shown over 90% of sexual predators and offenders will reoffend,”

That statistic is completely FALSE and inflammatory. The re offense rate of people required to register as sex offenders or sexual predators is lower than almost all other categories of offenses. Contrary to what Jefferson said, 90% WILL NOT re offend!

Please help by demanding News4Jax publicly correct this statistic.

The story can be found here: https://www.news4jax.com/news/local/2019/12/16/30-sex-offenders-predators-in-2-mile-radius-of-mobile-home-park-where-2-children-last-seen/?outputType=amp

UPDATED: THEY REMOVED THE 90% STATISTIC FROM THE WEBSITE BUT IT’S STILL IN THE VIDEO

SECOND UPDATE: THEY NOW REMOVED THE VIDEO. GREAT JOB FAC!!!!

Also I might add, when someone on the registry gets arrested, even for a registration violation, if the news gets wind of it , it becomes a story and then law enforcement gets on the news and makes statements like “We are keeping the community safer and this is why we have registries in the first place. Another scum bag preying on our children was arrested today”.
Of course, never really stating that they were arrested because they forgot they had an unused email address they hadn’t used since 1991 and the charges will probably be thrown out.
What a waste of law enforcement resources. The registries have become a source for Federal, state and local tax incentives now.

Once again, another ‘journalist’ Violating the Code of Ethics of The Society of Journalists (SOJ) of which ‘they’ are all members!

‘They’ should be sanctioned by their peers and put on a black list-oops, Registry!

    Email the following to programming:
I suggest that you educate yourself and your so-called expert by contacting the Florida Action Committee to get the correct statistics which concretely show that 90% of registrants will NOT reoffend and publish a correction to that effect while citing the Florida Action Committee for accurate information and make a real effort to give the public truth and not lies.
    Very sincerely,
    A registrant

I would also like to add, that the children is question were found about 2 hours ago in the wooded area near their home, un harmed, and surprise, not with anyone on the registry. Please forgive my cynicism.

I think News4Jax owes the registrant community a huge apology.

Hit them on FB about that! I’d love an apology even though I dont live in Jax. Glad those kids were found safe (and without any sexual contact with registered citizens or otherwise).

Absolutely glad they were found safe.
Still absolutely pissed they implied a connection to registrants even though there was none and used the opportunity to spin it into a hysterical scare story.

Anyone who has access to Facebook should call them out.
