CA: West Covina is the latest city to have their residency restrictions taken down by ACSOL
The City of West Covina, California’s city council decided to repeal its Sex Offender Residency Restriction (SORR) rather than defend a losing lawsuit. The suit, brought last year by the Alliance for Constitutional Sex Offense Laws (ACSOL) challenged the law as unconstitutional – a fact the California Supreme Court had already decided previously and a fact that many other cities across the state were forced to recognize after they also got sued and either lost or acquiesced.

Is ACSOL a national organization? Is it similar to NARSOL?
I believe that a United front of organizations working for reform may influence lawmakers, and eventually the Media. Chuck
ACSOL is California based. They are formerly the CA affiliate of RSOL but refocused on a more national approach. That said, most of their efforts are in CA, but they are VERY receptive to challenges nationwide and on the federal level.
Are there aspects of this successful suit that could be utilized here in Brevard county? I understand that we’re talking about 2 totally separate states/ districts and VASTLY different political/social climates but a constitutional argument should be the same nationwide.

What are we in Florida doing that we can’t see those victories here.
Maybe we should be hitting the smaller towns and cities and getting victory instead of going after the whole State.

I Believe The City Of Carson California Is Still Battling ACSOL On The Residency Restriction And The City Has Vowed To Fight It All The Way Up To SCOTUS
When will action be taken in Florida?
Action has been taken in Florida. Florida and California are two completely different animals when it comes to politics and everything else for that matter. Apples and Oranges.
This is so true. The apples and oranges analogy sadly applies to every state. It also includes Counties, cities within those states. Only a United National voice that pursues Reform can help.
