Sex Offenders might soon be precluded from another job… drivers.

Broward County is looking to further regulate taxi and limo drivers.

The Sun Sentinel reports today that a number of taxi drivers have criminal and driving records which should preclude them from working as a taxi driver or chauffeur.

The story cites a number of different individuals who have been convicted of certain offenses and suggests they should not be operating taxis. The story does not mention that these individuals are currently committing these offenses or whether Broward county has a problem with taxi drivers violating the people they are driving.

Again, it’s another situation where a problem is invented where one does not exist. Clearly sex offenders will be on the top of the list of those who should be precluded from working as taxi drivers and that would close off another avenue of employment for former offenders who have no intent to harm anyone and are simply looking to earn a living.
