FAC Weekly Update 2025-07-01-The Vulnerable Among Us

Dear Members and Advocates,

We Need Your Help to Reach the Vulnerable Among Us! FAC is currently working to connect with individuals on the registry — or their caregivers — who are elderly or have physical or mental impairments that make it difficult, or even impossible, to comply with Florida’s strict sex offender registration requirements.

Florida’s registration laws are enforced as strict liability — which means failure to comply is not excused, regardless of intent or capability. This creates an impossible burden for many who may suffer from dementia, memory loss, cognitive impairment, limited mobility, or other medical or psychological conditions. In many cases, it falls to caregivers (not registrants themselves) to ensure the individual is in compliance with requirements that are complex and burdensome.

If you or someone you know fits this description, please reach out to us at [email protected] as soon as possible.

On an unrelated note; we’ve noticed an increase in engagement on our website articles, which is great — many posts are seeing over 100 comments. However, this also comes with some challenges.

We want to remind everyone of our commenting policy, which appears below each article. Please follow it closely. Comments should respond to the article, not to other commenters. Respectful discourse is required. Comments that attack, mock, or are condescending to others will not be approved. Avoid political, religious, or off-topic rants. While we value free expression, our comment section is not the place for partisan debates or personal soapboxes.

Simply put; if a comment doesn’t relate to the article, it won’t pass moderation. We want people coming to our site for information to find it there. Our goal is to foster thoughtful, focused discussion that helps inform and strengthen our advocacy. Let’s work together to keep our conversations respectful, relevant, and productive.

And finally, please remember that if you are aware of any elderly, physically, or mentally impaired individuals on the registry who are struggling to meet their registration obligations, please contact us at [email protected]. We must look out for those among us who can’t look out for themselves.

Sincerely,

The Florida Action Committee

it is very nice that you are concerned about the elderly, physically, or mentally impaired. I agree fully that they need our help. How about the homeless. Every time I see a homeless person standing on a corner, I wonder if they are on the registry? Also, how much they are struggling. Is there are list of who is homeless and need our help or are they just in the back ground?
