Update on our experiment
Yesterday, we posted an article titled “Police Questioning Registrants in Jacksonville” and began by suggesting this will be a real-life experiment.
Sadly, an 8 year old girl was abducted and raped by an unknown assailant. This is a tragic occurrence and whoever did it will hopefully be caught and prosecuted to the fullest.
That said; the fingers automatically pointed to the over 100 “sex offenders” in the area – which led us to wonder how much time and how many resources are being dedicated to investigating the over 100 “automatic suspects” instead of focusing on the investigation of the actual crime and whether the actual offender will turn out to be someone on the registry or not.
So far, according to the Palm Beach Post, “Sex offenders and predators in the area were being contacted with officers beginning to interview them, Tom Hackney, chief of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office’s Investigations Division said. There is no evidence yet to link any sexual predator or offender to the crime, but Hackney said that “it’s a reasonable place to start.”
It may be a “reasonable” place to start, but let’s see if what seems so logical actually turns out to be the right place to start.
The other point made by the Post article is, “Hackney said the incident occurred because of the lack of supervision of the child and encouraged parents in the area to keep a better eye on their children.” indicating once again, that actual results will not come from harsher restrictions on sex offenders, but from investing in education and prevention.

In reality to the uneducated public that think these illegal sex offender laws and a hit list for harassment by the public and in this case law enforcement are great; the truth is if the guilty is not on the SO hit list the public will think glad the got the sicko he will now be on the SO hit list and feel safer. Should the person responsible already be on the hit list the public will demand more of the hit list and think the perv does it again. And of course i’m sure Florida politicians and ron and his daughter will try to create more feel good laws. Note to Ron & Daughter – Ron had you been a parent and not neglected your child by thinking of yourself and having a nanny watch your daughter perhaps the incident would have never taken place; To Daughter, Perhaps you should concentrate in fixing the issue and put blame right where it belongs. a neglectful parent!
