Misleading Numbers on the Sex Offender Registry

This news report from Arkansas points out the discrepancy on the numbers reported on their registry, as it includes deceased registrants as well as those that are incarcerated. In one county it reported that the numbers were off by about 40% because it listed registrants in the county (using their last address) who were incarcerated even out of the county.

Florida is no better. In fact; Florida is much worse!

The Florida registry lists people who are deceased, people who are in confinement (prison or jail), people who were deported and even people who came to visit a decade ago but who have not returned. Once on the Florida registry, pretty much always on the Florida registry – doesn’t matter if you move away, are deported or even die. The community is apparently still supposed to be on the lookout for you.
