When a Clothing Store Declares Itself a Park: Inside Florida’s Sweeping Registry Lawsuit
On August 11, 2026, the Florida Action Committee filed one of the most ambitious civil rights lawsuits in the history of sex offense registry litigation. The caption alone runs for pages: Florida Action Committee v. Mark Glass, Case No. 4:26-cv-00388, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, Tallahassee Division — naming the head of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, 33 counties, and 17 cities as defendants. Brevard. Broward. Calhoun. Citrus. Clay. The list marches through the alphabet.
Six counts. Seventy pages. Nine exhibits. Expert declarations with maps.

I think we should send messages of disapproval to every business listed in that BSR search list, or at least some of the more egregious ones.

I sent an email of disapproval to Hello Again Books, an LGBTQ+ bookstore, because you’d think they’d KNOW their history and thus understand that these laws have been largely used to target members of the LGBTQ+ community.
That clothing store better have a swingset in it and and a table with a bench and be accessible to all the public where they can rest and play regardless if they are shoppers.
It has none of those things.
This is a pretty good summation of the entire case from various angles with a realistic conclusion. As frustrating as our legal system is, it is what we have, but the fight must continue.
Here is another kick in the head on housing. You do all the research on finding an apartment or rental house. Everything meets all the requirements! You’ve spent hours and days doing measurements. The apartment/ house meets all the specifications/ requirements. The apartment has no swimming pool, no playground, ect. Run down, bug infested ect.You go to the office and fill out the application. Here are some of the questions on the application: is your income twice the amount of your rent?(yes)
Do you have a credit score of 500 or more,(yes) Do you have any felony’s (yes) does anyone living with you have any felony’s ( no)
Do you have a major credit card, (yes)
Now they run a check on you.
You do not hear back from them and you call to see about your application. They tell you it’s denied. Because you have a felony sex offense.
How can you address this issue? You can’t! Start your very limited search all over again and end up with the same results!
Anyone with any ideas?
James
You have just described why there are SO many homeless people on the registry living in the woods. The woods have fungus, ants, snakes, possibly bears, mosquitoes, broken glass, briars and stickers, all kings of bees and insects, and no sanitation, like bathrooms and wash stations.
These people also sometimes need medications, food and more but many of them stand at the corner holding up a sign stating they are homeless. It is hard to know if they are scammers or not, but many of them you can tell they are homeless because a beard that Santa would be envious of, raggedy cloths, and often skinny and malnourished.
One guy I see sometimes at registration told me he lived in the woods, and he rides a bike an hour each way to registration.
