Louisiana: Surgical Castration May Never Happen
Louisiana has decided that prison, probation and registration aren’t enough punishment for some sex offenses. Under a 2024 law, judges can order surgical castration as part of a sentence. A Louisiana man was sentenced to 35 years in prison and surgical castration — the first known use of the law that orders the permanent removal of part of someone’s body as punishment.
But what’s holding up the process is not legal wrangling or an outpouring of opposition from human rights groups. Louisiana doesn’t currently have anyone available to perform the surgery.
Regardless of what you think about the underlying crime, this should make everyone uncomfortable. We’ve seen where the “tougher and tougher” approach to sex offenses leads: longer sentences, lifetime registration, residency restrictions, employment restrictions — and now government-ordered bodily mutilation.
Hopefully the procedure never happens, because Louisiana is not pursuing public safety here… it is pursuing vengeance.

One of my favorite movies is Hancock with Will Smith. I like it because I relate to it, a down and out person trying to pick himself up. But as far as this law, there is a line in the movie. “I’d like to see the bi*ch try”
WHY NOT COME UP WITH A MEDICATION THAT THEY MUST TAKE TO STOP THEM FROM HAVING THESE TYPE THOUGHTS INSTEAD OF CASTRATIONS. It seems if we can come up with all types of meds for other ailments why not one for pedophiles and rapist?
They already do have them. This is not about implementing the existing but physically putting fear into people as to what punishment could be had by having this law in this manner on the books. Kinda like what they think registry is supposed to do…scare people from sex crimes just as other criminal punishment is supposed to allegedly do.
Because that would be immoral as well. Most offenders do not have those those thoughts constantly. You are talking about forced mental mutilation. I’m an offender who had a dirty conversation on an adult website with who I thought was an adult and then they changed their age on me after the conversation. should I be mentally adjusted or mutilated? And, Am i allowed to have children? You have to have some sort of sexual thoughts to have children. any manipulation of the body and mind is considered cruel and unusual punishment.
That’s surgical castration. Not much difference. Should we cut off the hands of thieves. The tongues of those whom speak prejudice and hate.
Hey MR D, what about the folks like me who are forced to imprisonment and registration but are innocent or otherwise don’t qualify on any psychological analysis of being a rapist or pedophile as you put it? Are you saying people like us must be subjected to some medieval medical procedure or draconian punishment like meds or castration we don’t want? What happened to “my body, my choice”?
I am currently navigating the difficulties of living with a sex offender designation in Florida due to an incident involving an image I did not personally send. During a period of emotional distress, friends were using a dating site, and after an inappropriate image was shared by another individual, the age of the recipient was misrepresented, leading to my arrest shortly thereafter. As there is no victim involved in this situation, I find it challenging to reconcile these circumstances with my identity as an ordinary person who has no intention of causing harm. I am simply seeking to integrate into society despite the challenges posed by this label. I do not think to harm anyone in anyway actually served my country just like machiavelli and many on here. What about wrongfully accused as well? There’s is always a percentage in judicial that can be in that group.
OMG PLEASE STOP! THAT IS STILL NOT OK!
The government does not have any authority to do what they’re doing and have no authority over our bodies or who we choose to love!

To whoever is always censoring me and truth, karma corrects on ALL wrongs. You’re not helping your self or anyone else. My comment did not violate any terms. This feels personal.
Violation of the First Amendment is ALWAYS UNconstitutional. Do you realize the irony? Remember that every time YOUR voice is silenced and you whine and cry about the registry being unconstitutional. There’s more freedom of speech on X and Google than here. That’s sayin’ a lot.
Karma is a bitch.
