U.S. House Passes Bill Banning Child Sex Offenders From Union Roles
The US House of Representatives approved a measure that would ban people convicted of sex crimes against children from serving in union leadership positions.
The legislation (H.R. 8775), which passed by voice vote Wednesday, would amend the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act to bar any individual from serving as a union leader, as well as a consultant, adviser, or collective bargaining representative, for 13 years after their conviction of a sex crime against a minor.
Current law already bans individuals who are convicted of specific crimes — including robbery, murder, and rape — from union leadership roles.

Doesn’t it seem that every time we try and get some relief, some new order comes out stating we “can’t do this or that”. It seems it syncs up with anything we propose for some sort of that relief.
And all these sheriff’s offices stings for basically nothing that no other citizens have to deal with ending up sometimes getting arrested that lead to not being eligible for the removal of the registry. And I bet your darn dollar that law enforcement knows that, and that right there is exactly why they do it and get away with it.
If a person convicted of a sex offense were to get put in a position off leadership in a union, children everywhere would be at risk because they could use their position to… wait… what exactly does this bill do to protect children? Oh! I see. It’s more punishment.
Exactly! And to make it seem like these reps are “ for the kids” they list unions that specifically deal with children. Education, bus drivers, day care. What about steel workers unions, construction unions, railroad unions, etc. Those that have nothing to do with any type of “children”. So sad. I work in education and the things that some of the board members, principals, superintendents are pushing is horrible. They shouldn’t even be in power even without a felony.
