FAC’s Letter to The Pride Center
After learning about the termination of Clarence Collins, who had worked for The Pride Center (an LGBTQ community center in Florida) for fifteen years as a janitor, FAC was compelled to contact the center.
Below is a copy of the letter.

To FAC,
Here is a little something that might be of interest to some on here (all of us).
Yesterday, Mark zuckerburg went before Congress and especially Ted Cruz literally tore him a new one !!
At the 4:19 mark, Cruz reads Zuckerburgs testimony response. Something about “not wanting to hurt people and spread MIS-information”.
Isnt that what Facebook is doing to us now? Spreading MIS-information, keeping us from connecting for the GOOD of the community??
Please put this in the proper “slot” for a response. I didnt see a facebook post/article.
I hope this opens up the “social Media” aspect for all of us. I mean, hell, they can get into our computers now; (they could read me on Facebook talking to my childhood friends ((Im 60)) and reminiscing about my childhood)
Sean – not sure what state you are in but in FL you are not banned from FB or any social media as long as you register your identifiers. It is FB themselves that ban you from the pages. The excuse used to be that they were a private entity and therefore could ban whomever they wanted – several years ago however they became a public company and it has been questioned how can they keep banning RSOs but they do….I do know RSOs that have FB accounts and have never been kicked off. My son was but it seems like it is random who stays and who doesn’t
Yes, I am in Florida. Broward (Coward) County. The LE I am in contact with are both respectful and courteous to me and my wife. They ask me if I need anything, ect. And they know I know the law.
AS FAR AS the FDLE Website…. Trying to get them to correct ANYTHING is impossible.
I was just recently thrown of of an app called Nextdoor.com AFTER they defended my right to post !??
They stated to me that not only was the offender effected, but anyone else that does live, OR HAS LIVED there to be banned from Nextdoor. They tried to say that the “cops said it was legal to do that.”
The following is from Nextdoor.com.
“Unfortunately, public records indicate that your Nextdoor address is listed on the Florida sex offender registry, and our policy therefore blocks EVERYONE IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD from using Nextdoor:
https://nextdoor.com/member_agreement/
We understand there are many people on offender registries who do not pose a threat to their neighbors. Unfortunately, we have no way to reliably distinguish between those who do and those who do not. In addition, Nextdoor has partnerships with more than 500 police departments, city governments, and other public agencies,
“and they have made clear to us that a NO EXCEPTIONS policy with regard to the HOUSEHOLDS of registered sex offenders is a necessary precondition for these partnerships.”
Interesting – can you please forward the email to [email protected] and I would love to see what we can do.
Wow! The letter said that Le told them they would not partner with them unless the RSOs were banned? No way! I bet the L will deny it! I signed up on Next Door once at the urging of a friend – I uninstalled it within a few days. I found the police presence there to be a little disturbing. What I thought was a place for neighbors to connect and share information etc. instead seemed to be a place where (at least the one for my neighborhood) neighbors were gossiping about others and reporting things to the police – it gave me the creeps. I do not understand this – stinks to high heaven to me!
Karen,
They (Nextdoor) suspended me for a week because some guy stated he reported lights stolen at his condo. Stated he reported it to the cops; I called the cops, nothing was ever reported.
SO– I posted the Fla Statute about filing a false complaint.
Neighbors complained that my comment (LAW) was “rude, ignorant and unneighborly”.
FOR POSTING THE LAW!!??
Nextdoor suspends me for “overposting”. If someone asks me a question, I am going to reply. BUT, if 3 people ask me [different] questions, I reply 3 times. Nextdoor “says” I am overposting.
I hopefully wish & want for this to be “the crack” that starts the boulder to shattering so we can get some of our freedoms back.
Where do I donate to you guys?
Thanks Sean. Right here: https://floridaactioncommittee.org/donations/
Excellent letter on our war against bigotry. I hope for the best outcome on this matter. Not to change the subject but have you made any progress on the court case in Colorado where the surrounding states are ganging up on them to try to influence the courts outcome. I wrote a letter to the Missouri ACLU asking if they would submit a letter too since they are adjacent to two of these states and the outcome will no doubt effect Missouri.
Amazing factual letter that hit all the right points. I am proud to be a member of this awesome organization and recognize Gail for the hard work and compassion towards all RSO’s. Thank you.
