OK: Opposition to Sex Offender Residency Restrictions Comes from Police

Opposition to a Sex Offender Residency Restriction about to go into effect in Oklahoma is coming from an unlikely source. The police!

Police in Tulsa Oklahoma are speaking out against a law they describe as “feel good” but useless. Hopefully registrants there can band together and challenge it:

    Tulsa Oklahoma
What bravery . You have a chance to break away from the bigotry and ignorance of other communities. Lead the way with the real facts.

But you have also shown your ignorance and blind hatred by comparing all sex offenders to rattle snakes. Is that not inciting to violence in its self which is illegal.

I think people do not understand, when they strike at people with hatred, they describe themselves. The snakes in the grass are those who intentionally destroy. Putting signs up to destroy and name calling is being true to the nature of evil .

Nothing unique here. LE frequently complains about the restrictions. Some because it makes “monitoring” them more difficult, others because they want more. When I see an LE officer publicly complain about how the registry as a whole is worthless, I’ll celebrate a little. But odds are, the one that does will be fired shortly afterward.

The claim is that the new regulations will only apply to new residents who try to move into the community. But we know that in practice it will just mean more persecution for offenders who have already served their time.
