The below link is FAC’s response to Nextdoor.com, Inc.’s reply to our letter from April.
In the event we are unable to obtain a satisfactory resolution for the individuals who happen to share households with people required to register. It is our intent to bring a lawsuit on their behalf.

This has impacted me somewhat. I’ve actually been serving on my HOA board the past 9 years (with another 3 year term coming up). A majority of my HOA are fully aware of my offense as it came to light within the first 6 months of my being on the board. Not only was the board aware of my conviction prior to being placed on the board, but a large swath of members of the community showed up and defended my right to being on the board. I do a lot of handyman stuff around the neighborhood and because I help a lot of people out they defend my right to live here.
After I joined the board I had heard about Nextdoor but I didn’t think much of it. Of course not being on it I’m unaware of any of the conversations going on. My wife had a reason to join Nextdoor and was denied for the obvious above reasons. To me I just kinda shrugged my shoulders and moved on. Personally I think it’s great this is being fought. I’m not sure if I or my wife would get on if they change their policies, but could you imagine if I needed to be on there as a board member of our HOA?
I am looking forward to reading their reply to this follow-up letter. This would be comical if it wasn’t so messed up.
Thank you for all that you do.
I received this message from Nextdoor last August. There was an attachment of a picture of my husband from the registry in case I was unaware of who I was living with. The tone of the letter disturbed me to say the least. I couldn’t believe the steps that were suggested to “remedy” the situation. It made me feel as though they were suggesting I get him to move out. I found the entire thing offensive to say the least and I wondered how truthful the part was about their partners being the ones who prevented my membership continuing. I had been a member for several years and then abruptly was cut off with no explanation until I pressed them on the matter.

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you had accessing Nextdoor.
Unfortunately, public records indicate that you share a home with a registered sex offender (offender profile attached) on the XXX Offender Registry and our policy, therefore, blocks everyone in your household from using Nextdoor:
https://nextdoor.com/member_agreement/
We understand there are many people on the sex offender registries who do not pose a threat to their neighbors. Unfortunately, we have no way to reliably distinguish between those who do and those who do not. In addition, Nextdoor has partnerships with more than 500 police departments, city governments, and other public agencies, and they have made clear to us that a no exceptions policy with regard to the households of registered sex offenders is a necessary precondition for these partnerships.
If the offender has since re-located, we’ll need to clear the hold on the address itself. The easiest way to resolve this is by speaking with your local Offender Registry agency, and explaining your current situation. They’ll be able to file the appropriate paperwork and start the process of clearing your address.
Alternatively, we can also clear your hold by providing us with applicable documentation. This could be a recent purchase agreement, lease agreement, rental agreement, land deed, or writ from the offender agency in your area.
Once your address is cleared, I can help you access Nextdoor.
Best,
Ryan

I posted an unsatisfactory complaint about a business MandM handyman services in deerfield Illinois. The contractor Marcin Smutik said he notified the police and is litigating against me. It is an act of retaliation. I posted within guidelines. The contractor made false allegations of discrimination shaming- and everytime I tried to post my post was taken down. The business is not BBB as much as I am aware but insured. Mr. Smutik advertises on Nextdoor and post positive answers. Nextdoor dismissed me from the Plat form. I want to litigate against nextdoor.
it’s very interesting how this is now surfacing and I’m glad Gail wrote this letter to Nextdoor.com. We were having an issue it was brought to my attention that our neighbor in the development were we live made a post copied the pic that is on the FDLE website and posted it on the Nextdoor website she then says she had a problem with him moving in the neighbor hood now is has been livening here sine 2010 he was arrested in 2012 in a Craig list sting operation had no contact with a victim she now has spread lies about him saying she has hi on camera looking in her pick up truck parking in the street which is not true and called the police which we never herd anything about so she has posted al this on the website and threated to post this on everyone’s doors. when I found about this I created a account on next door website I also sent an email to next-door website telling them she is violating the terms on the website and I will seek a attorney for harassment I am still waiting for a response sine July of 2018. she has done the same thing to another person in a development from behind us making problems . she has a problem with so’s I’m waiting to see what her next action maybe. So it will be interesting to see what nextdoor does about having a SO register an account with them but if you sell drugs or a murderer or in a gang or any other criminal activity that is allowed WOW !!
My wife tried to join Nextdoor.com, and this is the reply that she received:
Address Problem
We’re sorry. An issue with your address is blocking your ability to join Nextdoor.
To fix this problem, please email us at accountaccess@nextdoor.com, and we will follow up as quickly as possible.
To speed up the process, it is helpful if you write to us using the same email address that you just used to sign up for Nextdoor and to confirm your name and full address (including unit number if you live at a multi-unit residence).
Our apologies for the inconvenience.
Correct – the “address problem” is that it matches a sex offender’s.
I thank God for FAC.
