FDLE Responds to FAC Letter RE: Coronavirus and Registration

During the current State of Emergency due to the COVID-19 virus, below is information provided by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (HSMV) regarding their temporary mechanisms and accommodations for registrants to report registration information as required under Florida laws. As updated information is made available during this time it will be updated on our public website at https://offender.fdle.state.fl.us/offender/sops/important.jsf. Registrants should contact and check the website of the sheriff’s office in their county to determine any alternative registration reporting procedures they may have in place during this State of Emergency.
Registrants may request a Driver License/Identification Card Address Update Form by:
- Calling the HSMV Customer Service Line: (850) 617-2000, OR
- Downloading the Form from DHSMV at https://www.flhsmv.gov/pdf/forms/registrant_address_update_request.pdf

So the sum total of FDLE’s response is “call the sheriff, stop bothering us.”
I dont recall the letter FAC sent them initially, but I can’t imagine what questions FDLE thinks it answered. Certainly not the ones that were asked.

It appears this DMV Form simply mentions address update and not what kind of address is being updated. There is nothing on the form to denote whether you are updating Temp, Perm or Transient addresses.
It clearly states “NEW RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS”. It makes gives no clarity and neither does the letter from FDLE that there is a difference between Temporary, Transient and Permanent addresses. I would be concerned about using this for travelling for temporary or transient addresses due to the fact that this only states it is for an address update and does not clarify that it would not affect that current PERMANENT address that is on file with DMV and is on my Driver’s License.
It gives no indication that this form when put into the DMV system would not be seen as a change to my Permanent Address which is on my drivers license.
This is actually pretty disconcerting, even though I am super grateful that you are getting a response from them and writing to them to get these responses.

Great! So people (many of whom have no access to a smart phone, much less a printer) have to
print out a physical copy of their ID/DL
*go in person to buy a stamp (risky) (and snail-mail envelope)
*fill out the form and include the hard-copy of their credential
*and mail it
all in – what? – 48 hours??
These people have got to be F*%$ing kidding!
Man up, DeSantis!!! Just issue the executive order!
It appears FDLE is intentionally omitting information. They fail to address the several sheriff offices that are not readily available for registration purposes.
This does not comply with the in person requirement or the required time frame of 48 hr notification limit of transient address change, the statute requires. Snail mail can be lost, take days or weeks to get there and receive a response, and the offender is probably subject to arrest for a felony following these guidelines that are not approved by the legislature or governor…

What are they being paid for? We are under their supervision! They have issues that effect their ability to do their jobs and we are responsible for it??? Give me a break!
Yea that familiar quote under there supervision. Just like being on extended probation!. “PUNISHMENT”
