I like DeSantis as a leader for the state but he is a bit over zealous when it comes to enforcing even the most minute of crimes. I left the state 2 years ago and i am the happiest i have ever been. If you don’t like the situation your in and it seems to be getting worse, Change it.

This begs the question of Amendment 4. In Florida, an amendment was crafted by a group of citizens granting voting rights to all but “murderers and sex offenders”! The amendment was voted into law by Florida voters. This action is repulsive to me and I can’t believe it hasn’t been challenged in court. Because of this series of events, Florida has codified in its State Constitution a legally designated underclass. How can this be legal in America?! This is the epitome of Nazi segregation.

“ The designation of a person as a sexual offender is not a sentence or a punishment but is simply the status of the offender which is the result of a conviction for having committed certain crimes.”
    -Florida Statues 943.0435
So if the designation of a registrant is not a sentence or punishment then why can every other felons but murderers have their rights restored. If the registry is not punishment but simply a status then why does a fundamental right become a third degree felony when applied to every citizen convicted upon 943.0435 but not other people who committed crimes.
How can you evenly apply laws to one group of individuals while simultaneously saying this is not punishment but simply your held to a different standards that allows disfranchisement.
How can you say it’s not punishment when every sub group of population allows for remedy to allow voting again but for registrants. If he was vacationing in a state that allowed felons to vote such as Georgia and he voted in absentee ballots would he be able to vote? Denying the right to vote simply for being on the registry is prof that this is a 100 percent punishment simply for a civil regulatory scheme.

“Republican form of government.” Instead of the democratic form of government.

its not a party thing there are democrats that are as bad if not worse at harassing sex offenders. The writing has been on the wall for years in FL they don’t want any sex offenders at all in the state. I moved to WV and it’s heaven compared to FL when it comes to the registry

Not to nit pick but our government is a Republic not a Democracy. It is a technical point, but correct. The Pledge of Allegiance — “The republic for which we stand ..” But yeah I am a Republican love Trump, but I would vote for Harris if she gave me the right to vote back. maybe

Hate to tell you this but he was right on the Republican form of Government. We have always been a Constitutional Republic rather than a Democracy. That being said the Felon Voting Amendment does not hold up to our Constitution but nobody is willing to fight the stigma.

After 23 years of being a member of the Florida Price Club, I moved 40 mi north. I was able to immediately vote in all state and federal elections. The first time in my life at 45 yrs, I did just that.

It was a very sobering and joyful experience.

Over the years , I can’t tell you how many times I was asked to register to vote at the DMV, what party etc. I was definitely led to believe I was able too. It always sounded like some kind of entrapment. Just like when annual check in officers made mistakes with registration or inaccurate information somehow appeared.

Fingers crossed, that I’m done with the price club soon in my new state. Federal should also end in a couple years. All that will be left is Florida, a place that conveniently changed the rules and laws after a plea deal in 2002.

If my understanding is correct then disenfranchisement of humans is “republican form of government”?

In the last sting of voter fraud the 20 people that got arrested were told by the state and county government that they were eligible to vote. Likely what happened in this case.
