Ireland: Register Of Sex Offenders And Domestic Violence Abusers Will Not Be Made Publicly Available
A register of sex offenders and domestic violence abusers, similar to the tax defaulters list, will not be made publicly available.
The Irish Times report legislation floated by Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan in the Dail last month will not go ahead as planned.
A list is still expected to be drawn up but will only be disclosed to members of the public who may need the information to protect themselves.
For example, if a person on the register was convicted of a sexual offence, Gardaí may share that information to any new partner they form a relationship with.

What a joke. The real “punishment (not that it’s punishment… no no that has been made very clear)”, is that the registry is public: registry keeps PFRs unemployed, homeless, and victims of vigilantism.
In a couple of years when my father dies and I’m sleeping in a dumpster, the public aspect of the registry is what will keep the public safe from me getting a job as a dishwasher or waiter.
Besides, why keep it private at all? it’s not punitive remember?
