Man accused of killing sex offender after he was released from prison

An Indiana man has been charged with murder after investigators say he shot and killed a sex offender who had recently been released from prison.

Nicholas Stanley, 35, is accused of killing 35-year-old Allen Cogswell early Tuesday morning at the Daylite Inn on Cassopolis Street.

According to The Goshen News, police confirmed that Cogswell was a sex offender who had been released from prison in May.

Court records stated that Stanley is related to a victim in that case.

[FAC NOTE: Another reason why the registry should not be public.]

Relapse happens in addiction therapy. Numbers do show that suggests a Relapse occurs within the first year as much as 75%. Therapy does work. “Progress not perfection ” is an often heard saying in 12 steps and friends of Bill and others will tell you that recovery is a lifetime work.
I’m not arguing over the length of incarceration for crimes. Im against the registry and the draconian restrictions which continue to punish people. Not all crimes are the same and shouldn’t be treated as such. That being said, it’s your choice to not work towards healing mentally. Wallowing in self pity does no good for anyone. But you are correct in that we all have a right to fight unjust laws and that is exactly what I wish to do. It’s time to put an end to the registry.

Sir I beg to differ. Even in the Constitution it says the people have the right to fight its government when its wrong, so basically there is no difference between the two. YOU CAN’T HAVE PEOPLE GOING AROUND RAPING AND MOLESTING PEOPLE, GET SENTENCED TO 2 YEARS, MEANWHILE THE VICTIM HAS TO LIVE WITH A LIFETIME OF INTERNAL HATE, PAIN, MENTAL ILLNESS AND BAD SOCIAL SKILLS AS A RESULT. We forget that rape destroys a person from the inside out akin to a microwave. It’s a LIFELONG problem for the victims and many times the victims commit suicide too. So, I ask you would you be ok if I raped you and got a lite sentence for doing so and get to live in your neighborhood like nothing happened? hmmmm

What world are you living in. Also, don’t go telling me about counseling, it doesn’t work for most people like drug addiction rehabs have a 75% failure rate.

But most people on the registry aren’t rapists but everyone on it is treated as such. When the people look up others on the registry they hardly ever look to see what the offense was and the those who publish the registry do a terrible job of making any distinctions.

We need people to protect others from heinous crimes like rape and child molestation, and I support those who do.

So you are saying that this vigilante was protecting others from someone who was no longer committing crimes?

    Mr. Dorsett:
To answer your questions most registrants use that term or person forced to register (PFR). Hypothetically, yes you should. You should be barred from establishments, from seeing family, jobs and health care. You should be forced to li e 25000ft away from places even though you pose no threat. You should have your license branded. You should have citizen vigilantes notify neighbors about you. Reality is that is what registrants go through and more daily. No one should have to go through all that.
