Man strapped his GPS monitor on a dummy before escaping civil commitment center

You almost have to root for this guy…

A 53 year old man managed to escape from the Minnesota Sex Offender Treatment Program in St. Peter by strapping his GPS ankle monitor onto a dummy in his bed. The guy had been civilly committed to the facility since October 2011, remaining there indefinitely more than 14 years after his sentence had expired. After his escape, he was spotted on surveillance footage leaving the facility and was later found in Missouri, where he was arrested.

Nobody is condoning escape, but after spending over a decade confined beyond his original sentence and under a scheme where the state can keep him locked up without any end in site, it’s easy to understand why he felt he had nothing to lose.

His escape, involving a makeshift dummy and a cross-state journey, shows the desperation that can arise from indefinite confinement. While his actions are unlawful, they highlight the potential issues with the system of civil commitment for sex offenders.

And it’s not like he committed a sex offense on his little vacay… he stopped by a casino, got to speak with his son, and probably experienced the only taste of freedom he would ever have. Can you honestly blame him?

So you’re willing to accept registrants or their family members onto your Facebook page? Speaking only for myself, this is a cause worth fighting for despite your disdain for registrants. I’m open for honest conversation about reforms to the registry, but spare people your self righteousness and come here with an open mind.

she means why don’t all the offenders make a private Facebook group, there they can approve or deny anyone. accept only offenders to join. it is better so you can ignore us who want to be informed of what’s going on and to keep on protecting our communities. in your private group you can just keep crying and complaining without any more opinions

We know all to well the worthless opinions of pathetic incel trolls, we don’t need to hear the same tired lame comments from the basement dweller community. They can go back to their SVU reruns and Guy Fawkes masks and listen to tired anthems from two decades ago and make more silly memes online because trols offer absolutely NOTHINg of value to society.

Registered Persons should not be supporting anything from Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook not only has a policy banning us from the platform, people are allowed to attack us online w/o any repercussions. They carved out exceptions for cyberbullying and harassment to allow it if the victim is accused or convicted of a sex offense.

Well then you don’t have to call people with opinions, who also have the right to have and express, “trolls” 24/7 365!

You have a right to an opinion. When you have an irrational, factually baseless opinion you scream without end, and are unwilling to receive or accept truth, then TROLL fits:

This is a public website/forum and ppl can express themselves, even if it’s dedicated to your so called cause. If you don’t want anyone to challenge you – then just make it private or form a private Facebook group, where you have to post from your real name and approve ppl. That way you can approve fellow sex offenders only.

It’s not about Karen’s and Victim’s here. This is a place of support and encouragement, as well as a resource for the public, you, to educate yourself on the illegalities and injustice of the Sex Offense Registry and the thousands of insane laws created and perpetrated by people like you, angry and emotional. This is NOT the place for you, to react and mindlessly vent. Go somewhere where you are welcome.

I am for him 100 percent. The system is over the top biased and unfair. Because someone commits a sex crime one time, does not mean it will happen again. We, like him are societies scapegoats to hate.

Then they came for me….. It’s only a matter of time before other crimes are added to the justice systems list of “we don’t have to follow our laws list”… I am more afraid of a justice system that can’t be trusted then I am a man seeking to escape it after 15 years being held kidnapped after his sentence expired..

I hope the next time the justice system lies about how long a sentence is for and kidnap someone indefinitely it’s you … poetic justice.. Read the poem “Then they came for me” And study it’s history.. If you have any wit at all you will learn to be more afraid of a bloated justice system that lies then an individual who has committed no crime 15 years after their sentence expired… Think , before it’s to late… The government never breaks the law in half measurements

He was kidnapped. He should continue to try to escape until he succeeds or dies trying.

Hey Earl why don’t you go troll some other site.? The men here are interested in common sense solutions and share a bond built on concepts of redemption and commitment to live healthy lives. None of has any need to lectured to or be made less human on the one site we can go for support and encouragement. Save your hate and vitriol for somebody who wants to hear it. You are not welcome here, at least not unless you stop with the anger and hate.

“Civil commitment.” Nothing that is civil or voluntarily committed. Sounds like unlawful detainmemt. I applaud his ingenuity. I wonder if MN holds drunk drivers and thieves (particularly B&E repeats) to the same standards.
