Miami-Dade Sued Over Sex Offender Eviction
A Lawsuit and Emergency Motion for Temporary Injunction were filed against Miami-Dade County on behalf of registered sex offenders legislated into homelessness and directed to live at an encampment on a street corner alongside active railroad tracks in a warehouse district in unincorporated Miami-Dade County.
This is the fourth such encampment created by the County, after sex offender residency restrictions exclude registrants from living in most of Miami-Dade.
In an effort to shut this one down, the County recently amended their “overnight camping ordinance” to allow police to arrest homeless sex offenders on sight. The only problem is; they are involuntarily homeless and there is nowhere for them to go!
The Complaint and Emergency Motion for Injunction were filed by a team of attorneys from Legal Services of Greater Miami, the Florida Justice Institute and the ACLU of Florida. It was filed in Miami-Dade Circuit Court and as of the time of this post has not been assigned yet (it was literally filed moments ago).
The Injunction seeks to preserve the status quo (avoid eviction or arrest of the registrants) until the Lawsuit is decided. The Lawsuit asks the court to declare the side of the road where the registrants are now living not “County facility/property” and therefore not subject to the camping ordinance. It also asks the court to declare the Miami-Dade county ordinance that allows sex offenders to be arrested on sight for violating the “overnight camping ordinance” cruel and unusual punishment.

Doesn’t this create a situation for a rebellion and violence?
revolutionary thinking such as that will not be tolerated sir in this age of blind submission to the almighty, all-knowing bureaucratic totalitarian government police state also know as the United States. (tongue in cheek)
What do you think this is? 1776?
**Interesting that the country created by people escaping government tyranny has itself become said tyrannical government.
To answer your question, YES, seems like a good time for it if you ask me.
Enough is enough – there is punishment and then there is abuse.
Clearly if you are safe enough to not be behind bars AND you have paid your “debt” to society then you should be allowed to move on – PERIOD
This second class citizen sh^t is NOT what America is about. If the lies about the registry and sex offenders in general were known then the public might understand this. Politicians have lied and with the assistance of law enforcement they have a cash cow with sex offenders. Those are the REAL criminals…
Where can we contribute to help defray the cost of this law suit.
Those of us who can afford a few dollars can (and should) kick in to help our people in Dade.

These orgs picked up the tab for this lawsuit.

Please…..all of you who can spare a little something, donate to this litigation. We help ourselves by helping others in our group.
Florida government is rotten and corrupt in all corners of the state. Once again a politician creates a problem and then wastes tax payer money ‘solving’ it only to create another problem. They establish a career doing this.
Agreed, Captain. We all need to pray that the corruption will be exposed and the darkness will manifest into the light for all to see!
This just breaks my heart. Tho I have never been homeless, I understand the fear of not knowing where you will be in the morning, to have the cops just about knock down your door @ 3am, just to count how many people lived there. Nothing about kids.
NO ONE deserves to live like that, on skids, (doesnt Hialeah flood alot?) with not even running water or toilets. And Book pushing the agenda of “we are trying to help, but (they) dont want it” garbage. But he created this mess–in another county– and now brings this self-proclaimed program to “help” sex-offenders with overpriced housing for the people trying to qualify. He already knows that they wont qualify, yet he puts these people thru this torture of wondering “Am I really going to get a break and try to make it on my own??”
Will the neighborhood accept this person and what will the neighbors do to him and his family? Did Ron Book check with the neighborhood? (probably not)
Could Ron Book & Homeless Trust be liable for placing someone in a house that the neighbors go and kill them??
I have already donated and will continue to do so as much as my check will allow.
Thanks for listening to me. I hope I bring ideas to the table.
