Operation “Southern Impact II” – what the numbers don’t tell.

Parents nationwide have been fed misleading headlines touting the results of operation “Southern Impact II” which purportedly “nabbed 76 child-sex predators” and in which “13 children were rescued or identified as victims”.

Without more, those are some scary numbers and what appears to be a very successful “operation”, but if you dig below the surface, it’s not so successful after all… For example; the phrase, “rescued or identified as victims”. Which is is? Were they rescued or did they merely “identify” them as victims? That makes a big difference.

Then let’s analyze the 76 arrests. Consider that number in the context of the following stats:

  • Operation Southern Impact II, was coordinated by nine (9) Internet Crimes Against Children Task Forces.
  • The results were the results across eight (8) states.
  • The planning for Operation Southern Impact II began approximately 4 months ago.
  • A total of 222 law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies participated in the operation.
  • 736 digital devices were previewed and 1,255 digital devices were seized
  • A number of arrests were made that were not directly related to child pornography but rather as a result of the investigative actions taken during Operation Southern Impact II. More specifically, these arrests consisted of offenders that were found to be non-compliant with the terms of previous criminal sentences (ie: registration violations).

So over the course of four months and involving 222 law enforcement agencies across eight states, investigating a couple thousand electronic devices, they generated only 76 arrests – a number of which were for “technical violations” of registry laws?

I’d like to know how may of those arrest will stick and, more importantly, how much money was invested in this operation! Those are numbers we’ll undoubtedly never know.

Most of us in California don’t need to report our identifiers, so we’re free to comment.

We are free to comment here in Florida on this forum without a identifier where the problem lies is in social media sites and emails

Somebody in Congressional Financing re LEA budgets, needs these stats. We the people paying cops salaries are actually paying for high price “fishing exhibitions” that get little results. Follow up please out of the 76 arrests lets see how many convictions? I predict less than half. @JEV1A

Police are overpaid. Other people compete in the free job market. Police band together and extort more than the market will support. Work with groups that keep their compensation as low as possible. The Registries deserve that.

I kindly disagree.. depends on the crime, charging, warrants etc. I talked for an hour.. Feds even brought in drinks and sandwiches. We used it in pre-trial and deal was cut. Yes. LAWYERS always say.. don’t talk but Registrants don’t have lawyers generally speaking and Public Defenders are a joke. If the cops want information to help thwart a bigger crime from happening, the tell them what you know. If its the Feds, then get a lawyer quick. Most of what you say and don’t is usually Judges decision, every case differs.

You should never speak to law enforcement for any reason. There truly is no need and it is what the Registries deserve. Why would you care what “bigger crime” they are messing with? They should never be trusted.

You are entirely right Will, When I was first being accused I told the complete truth . That was my biggest mistake, for one they are going to automatically assume you’re lying unless it’s something they can pin on you. If they can’t find anything to pin on you they’ll make up something. So 1 you loose 2 you loose.

Snitching isn’t the answer either I can’t believe someone actually wrote that. I learned a vaulable lesson from my experience I talked to police hoping to clear up a misunderstanding what I talked myself into was incarceration and life sentence as a societal outcast my paid attorney advised me if I hadn’t tried to help and kept my mouth shut he could have probably gotten the charges dismissed. I guess what I’m saying is even a public pretender would say stfu. Never ever talk to the police except to say I want a lawyer

Iservedmytym, same thing with me. I thought being honest and telling the truth when i got raided that yea i had seen a video but wasnt looking for it, would have helped me out. Nope. I gave them an automatic conviction with a recorded confession

FAC a better name for this petition would be something like Second Chance, Preserve lives not Bigotry. The title of this petition automatically turns people off and they read no further.as does the term sex offender. The only way we can change that is by getting them to consider the facts first before they are aware of the misleading term that has been labeled on them.

The Miranda warning says “anything you say can be used AGAINST you in a court of law”, very rarely will anything you say benefit you. Those cops certainly aren’t there for your benefit.

I appreciate the article but none of it matters,. The only thing that matters is what was printed in newspapers and shown on the news that day and thats what the people of today will remember that there is an RSO in their backyard and they are going to rape their children if we dont lock them all up and dont allow them to prosper once they are out. If they continue to get headlines like the one from “Southern Impact II” we wont have a pot to piss or live in. shock and awe is what the politicians against us are using and its working like a charm there is no common sense anymore

We STILL have to report our comments to FDLE because of the “internet identifier” law that got passed. This internet identifier law has actually “chilled” the RC from making comments. Not making comments is WHY they passed the law in the first place. This is why it’s imperative that the Judge make a finding on the motion(s) or just take it to trial. Our freedom of speech (which includes our anonymity) needs to be given back to us.

Y’all have to inform someone if you post anything to a forum? we just have to give our state police our email addresses and that’s it unless you are ordered to stay off a computer as a condition of probation or parole…what do they do for out of state people who post on your forums?

Any government that requires “internet identifiers” needs to be sued for it. Heck, sue them for anything. These governments need to be kept broke and dysfunctional.

        • March 21, 2018

I would recommend having a user identifier such as F_FDLE, FRegistrySupporters, or something equally appropriate.

fac i appreciate the response but if we comment here only FAC members will see it and the damage to us and any RSO has already been done nationally. people believe what they first hear and see not the apology or retraction.

Although I agree with FAC here, the sad reality is that 90% of all forums require a Facebook login to post. Since FB doesn’t allow RC’s, we are essentially gagged.

JZ that is true we will have to depend on a wife or friends it will be hard but not impossible.

F Facebook. Create 20 accounts and post all the time. I do and will.

It should be illegal for any government to use Facebook since they try to keep some U.S. citizens from interacting with government by that method. So it should be illegal.

I don’t care what Facebook wants either. Until the Registries are gone I will have zero concern for anyone who supports the Registries. War will continue.

JEV, rise up as a citizen?? really??? do we not get enough attention (for all the wrong reasons) already? how successful has anyone being an RSO been by rising up as you put it or has it gotten them into more trouble? and i try and make comments on certain articles i see online but as far as i know there less than 1/2 of every RSO out there allowed to use the internet. thats what the government does it limits our voting/it limits our internet access/places to live/work etc,,, they have slowly controlled the whole process to make sure we have little to no voice and its only getting worse. The cops did not take my dignity living as an rso in the conditions i am forced to live in is little by little.
