Passport marking a throw-back to Nazi Germany.

News About Sex Offender Registries

In the days of the Third Reich, the Nazis stamped the passports of Jews with a conspicuous “J”. The “Judenstempel” (Jew Stamp), was used by the Nazi German authorities identify those of the Jewish faith.

Through the identifier, German Jews could be identified immediately at border crossings. Depending on the entry requirements of the destination country, this could mean that Jews were denied entry.

On October 5, 1938, the Reich Ministry of the Interior invalidated all German passports held by Jews, requiring them to surrender their old passports and reissuing them with the large “J” stamp in them.

On October 27, 2017, the United States Department of State announced that it will begin revoking the passports of registered sex offenders and reissue them with an identifier.

am I the only one who feels this way?

    Strangled, caged, left alone
Doin’ time in a broken home
    Feelin’ left to die
I’m a product of your troubled ways
You made me what I am today
    Now you’re askin’ why
    Restless soul deep inside
Searches for some piece of mind
    Livin’ just to die
I’m an angry man I always have
Had to fight to survive my past
    Sign of these times
    Oh, life it’s misunderstood me
    So I close my eyes
    And dream of better days
    Oh, life it’s misunderstood me
Life’s not always fair or so they say

Reading the comments is so heartbreaking. It seems that most people do not “get it” until they or someone they love is in the same situation.

Almost sounds like an 80 year anniversary. Geez!

This is a test run to see how far they can go in violating a person’s civil and constitutional rights. They have effectively demonized anyone that is a sexual offender through propaganda. Same strategy the Nazi regime used to demonize the Jews. Once the hatred and anger toward them was rampant in society, they could then start violating their rights. The same thing is going on in this situation, right here in the good old USA in 2017. My greatest concern is what group of people will be the next target? Political dissenters? Homosexuals? Other so called enemies of the state? Time will tell. This is definitely a slippery slope we are sliding down as a free society. Fear and paranoia have taken root and common sense and decency have been thrown out the window.
I grieves me greatly to see this happening in this country that always stood for freedom, dignity, and a second chance.?

I’m curious in the state of Florida can a SO vote? I get told different things. But I thought voting rights were only barred from so/Felons until incarceration, parole and Probation were complete.

No felon may vote in floriduh regardless of being under court jurisdiction or not.

One must petition the state to request restoration of right to vote and all those that have to do with unalienable rights people are supposed to enjoy.

But hey, if ya make enough money, or own a home you still get to pay federal and property taxes to support the fascist bastards in government. =)

A.L.S. – In Florida, RSOs cannot vote with the exception of those that are adjudication withheld. There is a movement in FL to restore felons civil rights after sentence served but it excludes RSOs (of course – doesn’t everything?) My son was told when his case was adjudicated by attorneys and others that once his sentence was completed he could have his record sealed/expunged. However, the rules for it specifically state not for RSOs. In fact, I wish I knew how to tell when that was added to the statute to know if it is an ex post facto scenario for him but I have never been able to figure it out. LOL Also, remember the US Constitution does not say felons cannot vote…that is all state crap. Florida is not the only state with that but there are only a few.

          That is not correct.
Those who have had their civil rights restored can vote.
Prior to Governor Scott, Governor Crist had restoration of civil rights for felons, pretty much automatically.

Which part is not correct? I want to make sure I know….

I realize those who have civil rights restored can vote. To me, that goes without saying.

The statement, “In Florida, RSOs cannot vote with the exception of those that are adjudication withheld.” is incorrect.
Disenfranchisement in Florida has NOTHING to do with sex offender status or adjudication.
FELONS in Florida cannot vote unless they have had their civil rights restored.
Someone ADJUDICATED GUILTY of a misdemeanor can vote.
Someone adjudicated guilty of a sex offense who has had their civil rights restored can vote.

Thank you. That’s kind of just a different way of saying what I was saying. I think the misunderstanding was that I was answering the question that specifically asked if sex offenders could vote. So my answer addressed that question. Adjudication withheld sex offenders can vote. Balloons sex offender or not cannot vote unless their civil rights are restored. I am not familiar with the exact rules but I Must have misunderstood that the rules about getting your civil rights restored did exclude sex offenders from going through that process. I wonder if there’s many that have been granted those civil rights? So the bill that people are asking for is it just to have it automatic? I know I read the original of that particular bill and I did exclude sex offenders

Even under Charlie Crist, there was a carveout in the automatic restoration for denial of those convicted of certain offenses. Among those offenses that required a physical application were pretty much all offenses that would land one in the registry and murder.
