Pinellas County man jailed for registry violation assaulted and on feeding tube.

Those saying the registry is non-punitive can answer to this one. James Mills, who was housed in Pinellas County, FL jail for a registration violation was attacked by Charles Allen, who was incarcerated for a murder charge.Mills was left with a traumatic brain injury and has been in the hospital for the last month. He cannot talk and relies on a feeding tube for nutrients,

When the consequences of a registration violation (which is supposed to e civil and “non-punitive”) is incarceration and so many people required to register being killed in jail, the argument that registration is like “filling out a membership form at price club” goes out the window.

So sad… my heart goes out to Mr. Mills and his family. This registration is like a death sentence. Florida is not a fair state. I hope one day we get out of the stone age and SCOTUS corrects these laws that keeps us oppressed.

Its OK to get angry over this BUT now you can turn that energy into action. Donate any amount you can to FAC . Our only remedy will be within the law. You can vote this November by PROXY. Find anyone who doesn’t intend to vote or who doesn’t and get them to the poles. Republicans usually are the party of hate and revenge. But not all of them , so find candidates who will help us and get your proxy to vote for them. Drive them to the poles if necessary. A Democrat Governor will certainly be better than another Scott. There are close to a million citizens on the registry. Imagine that power if each one voted by Proxy? We could be a major factor in national elections ; so don’t give into anger and fear. DO what you can to change the situation we are in. I agree that huge law suits against the authorities who allow mistreatment will at least wake up the legislators when multi million dollar settlements are involved.

I had a concerned citizen print my registration flyer and place one in the door jamb of every condo in my complex. It’s very unnerving. Call me paranoid. I managed to survive 6 years in florida state prison system. I think i have post traumatic stress disorder. And it’s not only post because the stress and fear continue every single day.

My heart and prayers go out to Mr. Mills and his family. I lost a friend at Franklin CI who was purposely put into the same cell with an already convicted murderer of men with sex charges. I would be surprised if Mr. Mills wasn’t set up. Will a noble attorney step up and take on Pinellas County? Doubtful.

    Wow,
I have not seen even 1 case that has been challenged into any supreme court to challenge on the grounds a civil law can not be punished with a Felony charge and that by doing so it makes registration punitive with the threat of prison. I may be wrong if you know of challenges let me know. It baffles me that laws that are so unconstitutional in plane view, can be enforced. Just my thoughts!
